PARISH BULLETIN March 1st, 2015

THEME FOR THE SECOND WEEK OF LENT MARCH 1ST
Living Lent with passion: Crosses of community
Lent is a time of turning to the Lord so that we are fully alive. It is a time to reflect to see if our own words or actions, or
lack of them, create crosses in the lives of others. In some way, we are all guilty of this sin. Lent is a time to turn from
sin. What have you done or said that has hurt others? Choose one, and refrain from that.
FR. JOHNS WEBNOTES MARCH 1ST - SECOND SUNDAY OF LENT
First of all, it shows us how God works. He does not reveal himself cloaked in worldly power and wealth but rather in
weakness and poverty: "though He was rich, yet for your sake he became poor ". Christ, the eternal Son of God, one
with the Father in power and glory, chose to be poor; he came amongst us and drew near to each of us; he set aside
his glory and emptied himself so that he could be like us in all things (cf. Phil 2:7; Heb 4:15). Gods becoming man is a
great mystery! But the reason for all this is his love, a love which is grace, generosity, a desire to draw near, a love
which does not hesitate to offer itself in sacrifice for the beloved. Charity, love, is sharing with the one we love in all
things. Love makes us similar, it creates equality, it breaks down walls and eliminates distances. God did this with us.
Indeed, Jesus "worked with human hands, thought with a human mind, acted by human choice and loved with a
human heart. Born of the Virgin Mary, he truly became one of us, like us in all things except sin."
Lenten Message 2014, December 26, 2013
Through the incarnation God chose to draw near to His people. Jesus, God made flesh dwells among us, to be with us.
Andy sense of distancing is of our own creation. We create this distancing when we sin. Through the mystery of the
Cross Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice. His death and resurrection is an ultimate act of love. It is an act that helps us
to return to the Lord.
DEVELOPMENT AND PEACE: WEEK 2 MARCH 1ST - Sowing seeds of justice for women and girls in Nigeria
Doubly poor are those women who endure situations of exclusion, mistreatment, and violence, since they are
frequently less able to defend their rights. Even so, we constantly witness among them impressive examples of daily
heroism in defending and protecting their vulnerable families. Pope Francis, The Joy of the Gospel, 212.
Supporting women and girls is a priority for DEVELOPMENT AND PEACE. When 276 girls were kidnapped by Boko Haram
from Chibok in Nigeria, our local Nigerian partner began working for their freedom, and has managed to smuggle three
girls to safety. The three girls, who were 17, 18, and 19 years old, still seemed to be under the effect of the swirl of
emotions generated by the trials they experienced since their abduction, states Raphael Yimga Tatchi, DEVELOPMENT
AND PEACE program officer for Nigeria. Their voices and lost eyes betray deep pain glimmers of humanity shine
through only when they courageously recount the details of their escape. The Share Lent collection for DEVELOPMENT
AND PEACE is on the Fifth Sunday of Lent, March 22 nd.

On the Eighth of March its

Every year on March 8th, petals with the colour of love swirl in the wind.
Moved by the breath of life, these petals softly settle down to cover with
their multicolour coat gloomy places that hold women in poverty and
subjection.
The Eighth of March is a day of hope for the thousands of women and men
who, standing up, form a chain of humanity to counter violence against
women. The Eighth of March is a day to ask: How are you doing, sister?
and a day to get in touch with the women around the world in which we
live. We seek a world in which it is possible to change things and improve
living conditions for the thousands of young girls and women throughout the five continents, with the proviso that
there is a willingness to tackle the social and structural causes the sources of the abuses and wrongs committed
against women.
The Eighth of March is a day to ask around, stopping for a moment, to become aware of the advances and retreats.
On the Eighth of March remember the victims: forced marriages, rapes, circumcisions, extreme poverty, conjugal
and family violence, women burned alive, native women that have disappeared or been assassinated, girl soldiers,
household help, sexual tourism, prostitution, pornography, homelessness, lack of access to education
That quite little Eighth of March is meant to open up our eyes to the extent of the wounds and not to close them:
through solidarity, love and compassion.
International Womens Day is a day to say yes to equal opportunity for all of humanity and to act together so that
recognition of dignity and the right to self-determination for all people is achieved today.
Be there to support the Eighth of March!

Trois-Rivires will welcome in October, 2015 the national gathering of the world March
of the women. This international mobilization is held in every five years since 2000.
After Montreal in 2000, Quebec in 2005 and Rimouski in 2010, it is on Trois-Rivires
where will converge the groups and the individuals militating for the elimination of the
poverty and the violence to the women. We wait between 10 000 and 15 000 people
