PART THREE: Components of an Effective Lesson Activity

Identify components of effective lessons and evaluate lessons from Part Two using
components as evaluation criteria.
Do a search for components of effective lesson and identify 3 that are appropriate for
creativity activities. Use these 3 components as criteria to evaluate the lesson examples
you found in Part Two. Write a short evaluation of each lesson example using these
3 criteria.

Guided/Independent/Group practice
Activity 1: Vocab Basketball
Introduction: Teacher should review content before starting activity.
Teacher should go over the vocabulary, enunciate each word, and list
what she expects the students to gain from the activity.
Concept and skill development and application: The teacher
should go over the instructions of the activity and explain the
importance of doing this activity. In this case, the teacher should
explain how practice and repetition help develop speech skills.
Guided/Independent/Group practice: In this activity, working with a
partner or a small group can help promote collaboration and a desire to
participate.
Activity 2: Adapted Puzzle
Introduction: Teacher should review content before starting activity.
Teacher should go over the vocabulary, enunciate each word, and list
what she expects the students to gain from the activity.
Concept and skill development and application: The teacher
should go over the instructions of the activity and explain the
importance of doing this activity. In this case, the teacher should
explain that saying individual parts of words out loud helps develop
verbal skills and pronunciation of words.
Guided/Independent/Group practice: In this activity, the puzzle
should be done with a partner and the teacher observing their work to
help should they have a question.
Activity 3: How to Play Sight Word Guess Who?
Introduction: Teacher should review vocabulary content and explain
how to enunciate each word. He or she should also explain what she
expects the students to have learned after the activity.
Concept and skill development and application: The teacher
should go over the instructions of the activity and explain the
importance of doing this activity. In this case, the teacher should

explain how this activity helps with spelling and letter/word


recognition.
Guided/Independent/Group practice: This activity should be done
with a partner. The game will help promote collaboration and
participation. By working with others, the students will be able to
practice verbal and social skills.
