superficial treatment of diversity that currently prevails, teacher educators
must articulate a vision of teaching and learning in diverse society.

A Curriculum Proposal for Preparing Culturally Responsive Teachers

Six silent characteristic that define the culturally responsive teacher

- Sociocultural conscious
- Affirming views of student from diverse backgrounds, seeing resources for
learning rather than viewing differences as problems to overcome
- Sees themselves as responsible for bring about educational change that
will make schools more responsive to all students.
- Understanding how learners construct knowledge and is capable of
promoting learners knowledge construction.
- Knows about the lives of their students
- Uses knowledge about students lives to create instructions that build on
what they already know

These are great examples of what makes a culturally responsive teacher. However
one question I pose; is there a limit to a teachers informant in a students personal
life?
Strand 1: understand the ways people think, and act are deeply influenced by
factors such as language and race.
Teachers need to be aware of their own culture.
Culture boundaries that should be acknowledged. Students may find their culture
The culture of the time. There is a difference between ethical culture and the culture
of society. I believe in order to make content relatable to students, teachers must
use both of these equally. Teachers could bring in the culture of media/ pop culture.
Guide students in cultural learning
Culture is not limited to race but it also extends age, sex, background, gender,
socioeconomic standing.
Allow students to share their perspectives.
Can teaching culture ever be seen as a negative in the classroom?
