Procedure
A. Daily Routine
Teacher Activity
Good morning Class!!
Lets pray...

Students Activity
Good morning! Sir Francisco it is nice to
see you again!

(teacher will check the attendance

of the student after the prayer)
B. Drill / Review
(teacher will show the students
flash cards to be answered on their
show boards)

(students will use show boards and try

to answer the given shown by the
teacher)

Factor the following:

C. Motivation
Today we will have some magic
tricks by using mathematics and it
is called Can I get your number?
So first grab a calculator or use the
calculator on your cellphone
Use your drill board to write the
answer
Follow the following Steps:
1. Key in the first 3 digit of your
phone number
Ex: 920------2. Multiply it by 80
3. Add 1
4. Multiply by 250
5. Add the last 4 digit of your
phone number
Ex: 920---0893
6. Add the last 4 digit of your
phone number again

(students will listen to the teacher for

the direction of the activity)

(students will use their calculator or the

calculator on their cellphone)
(students will use their drill boards to
write the answer)
(students will follow the steps to the
magic trick)

7. Subtract 250
8. Divide by 2
Does the answer have the same
number of your mobile phone?

Yes, the numbers are the same to the

number of my mobile phone

D. Lesson Proper
Lets discuss Factoring the Sum and
Difference of Two Cubes
Who can recall on how to solve for
the cube of a binomial?
So if we want to find the cube of a
binomial what are the steps to be
followed?

To find the cube of a binomial we simply

multiply the term to its self-three times.
The steps in finding the cube of
binomial:
1. Cube the first term
2. Thrice the product of the square
of the first term and second term
3. Thrice the product of the first
term and the square of the
second term
4. Lastly, cube the last term

Very well said!

( x3 y )3
Now, find the cube of the binomial

( x3 y )

( x )3 +3 ( x )2 (3 y ) +3 ( x ) (3 y )2 + (3 y )3

x3 + ( 9 x 2 y ) + 3 x ( 9 y 2 ) + (27 y 3 )
3

Very good!!

Find the product of

x 9 x y +27 x y 27 y

( 3+2 y )3 ?

( 3+2 y )3

( 3 )3 +3 ( 3 )2 ( 2 y ) +3 ( 3 )( 2 y )2 + ( 2 y )3
Good!
Now find the factor of

27+54 y +36 y +8 y
x 3+ 8 ?

You may ask your seatmate for help

Very Good!!
Now find the factor of

64 a 3b3 ?

E. Generalization
What are the steps in obtaining the
factors of the sum or difference of
two cubes?

F. Practice Exercises (Guided Activity)

Bring out your math time and
answer P.E 1.12 A 2, 4, 6, 8,
10,12, 14,
16, 18, 80

G. Formative (If time permits)

Completely factor the following:

(student will solve the given sum of two

cubes and will work with his/her
seatmate)

x 3+ 8=( x +2 ) (x 22 x+ 4)
64 a 3b3 =( 4 ab ) ( 16 a2+ 4 ab+b2 )

The steps in obtaining the factors of the

sum or difference of two cubes:
To obtain the first factor
1. - find the cube root of the first
and last term
To obtain the second factor
1. square the first term in the first
factor
2. minus or plus the product of
the first and the second term in
the first factor
3. square the second term in the
first factor
(students will bring out their math time
and answer the exercises)

VI.

1.

27 a3 +1

2.
