    InterculturalFestivalCelebratesTenthYear
    ALLENDALE,MI,February2015TheGrandValleyInterculturalFestivalwillbe
    celebratingitstenthyear,March1521,2015.Theyearlycelebrationisdesignedtocelebrate
    thespectrumofculturesthatarenotonlydefinedbyethnicityandrace.Itisatimetonotonly
    reflectonthepast,buttolooktothefutureandcelebratewhatvariouscommunitieshave
    accomplished.
    Theeventoriginallybeganin1963,whenitwasknownasEthnicFestival.Created
    duringtheCivilRightsMovement,itcelebratedraceandethnicityandbycreatingdialogue
    aboutwhatwashappeningintheUnitedStatesatthetime.In2005,InterculturalFestivalbegan
    asaonedayaffairtohonorallaspectsofthehumanrace.In2014,thetraditionexpandedtoa
    weeklongeventtomakeaninclusiveenvironmentfortheGVSUcommunity.
    CaitlinPerlotto,theeventcoordinatorstated,Ihopestudentsengageinaculturethatis
    unliketheirowntofurthertheirliberaleducationthatisseenatGrandValley.
    SomeeventsthatwillbefeaturedduringtheweekincludeANightAroundtheWorld,
    CultureShockEntertainment,andTransandQueer101:ATrainingforAllies.
    TheeventiscoordinatedbytheLakerTraditionsteam,adepartmentoftheOfficeof
