The Heart

The heart is the human body's hardest working organ

it pumps oxygen/nutrient rich blood throughout the
whole body
Arteries or blood vessels deliver oxygen to the heart,
and if they were to malfunction it would result in a heart
attack

What is a heart attack?

Myocardial infarction is a condition
where ones blood supply is deficient
and when blood flow to the heart
muscle is interrupted/blocked
This interruption can cause the heart
tissues to malfunction (from loss of
oxygen) and maybe even eventually die
This can severely damage a portion of
the heart

Background
Also known as Myocardial infarction (MI), Acute
myocardial infarction (AMI), Acute coronary
syndrome, Coronary thrombosis, and/or
Coronary occlusion
Heart disease is the leading cause of death for
both men and women
Every 20 seconds a heart attack occurs in the
U.S, with a heart attack death about every
minute.
A person's chance of surviving a heart attack
increases drastically if emergency treatment is
contacted as soon as possible.
