INTRODUCTION

To build a building we must have a strong pillar to make it stand. Islam also have a pillars
that make it stand. There is 5 pillars of Islam that make Islam is a perfect religion in the
world. The first pillar of Islam is Shahadah. Shahadah is the declaration of faith and trust, in
example the professing that there is only one God (Allah) and that Muhammad is God's
messenger. Kalima is a set statement normally recited in Arabic: 'La illa ha illAllah,
Muhammadu Rasulullah "I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except Allah
and Muhammad is His Servant and Messenger." Reciting this statement is obligatory in daily
prayer (sollah) as well as on other occasions. It is also a key part in a person's conversion to
Islam. Then, the second pillar of Islam is a sollah. Sollah consists of five daily prayers
according to the Sunnah. The names are according to the prayer times, Subuh (dawn),
Zuhur (noon), Asar (afternoon), Maghrib (evening), and Isyak (night). The Subuh prayer is
performed before sunrise, Zuhur is performed in the midday after the sun has surpassed its
highest point, Asar is the evening prayer before sunset, Maghrib is the evening prayer after
sunset and Isyak is the night prayer. All of these prayers are recited while facing the Kaaba
in Mecca. Muslims must wash themselves before prayer, this washing is called wudu
"purification". The prayer is accompanied by a series of set positions including, bowing with
hands on knees, standing, prostrating and sitting in a special position not on the heels, or on
the buttocks. The third pillar of islam is a fasting. Muslims traditionally break their fasts in the
month of Ramadan with dates, as was the recorded practice Sunnah of Muhammad. There
are three types of fasting are recognized by the Quran. Ritual fasting, fasting as
compensation for repentance and ascetic fasting. Ritual fasting is an obligatory act during
the month of Ramadan. Muslims must abstain from food and drink from dawn to dusk during
this month, and are to be especially mindful of other sins. Fasting is necessary for every
Muslim that has reached puberty unless he or she suffers from a medical condition which
prevents him or her from doing so. The fast is meant to allow Muslims to seek nearness and
to look for forgiveness from God, to express their gratitude to and dependence on him, at
one for their past sins, and to remind them of the needy. During Ramadan, Muslims are also
expected to put more effort into following the teachings of Islam by refraining from violence,
anger, envy, greed, lust, profane language, gossip and to try to get along with fellow Muslims
better. In addition, all obscene and irreligious sights and sounds are to be avoided. Fasting
1

during Ramadan is obligatory, but is forbidden for several groups for whom it would be very
dangerous and excessively problematic. These include pre-pubescent children, those with a
medical condition such as diabetes, elderly people, and pregnant or breastfeeding women.
Observing fasts is not permitted for menstruating women. Other individuals for whom it is
considered acceptable not to fast are those who are ill or traveling. Missing fasts usually
must be made up for soon afterward, although the exact requirements vary according to
circumstance. Next, the forth pillar of Islam is a Zakat. Zakat or alms-giving is the practice of
charitable giving by Muslims based on accumulated wealth, and is obligatory for all who are
able to do so. It is considered to be a personal responsibility for Muslims to ease economic
hardship for others and eliminate inequality. Zakat consists of spending 2.5% of one's
wealth for the benefit of the poor or needy like debtors or traveller. A Muslim may also donate
more as an act of voluntary charity also known as sadaqah, rather than to achieve additional
divine reward. The last pillar of Islam is perform the hajj at Mecca. The Hajj is a pilgrimage
that occurs during the Islamic month of Zulhijjah to the holy city of Mecca. Every able-bodied
Muslim is obliged to make the pilgrimage to Mecca at least once in their life. When the
pilgrim is around 10 km from Mecca, he or she must dress in Ihram clothing, which consists
of two white sheets. Both men and women are required to make the pilgrimage to Mecca.
After a Muslim makes the trip to Mecca, he or she is known as a hajj or hajja to one who
made the pilgrimage to Mecca. The main rituals of the Hajj include walking seven times
around the Kaaba termed Tawaf, touching the Black Stone termed Istilam, traveling seven
times between Mount Safa and Mount Marwah termed Sa'ie, and symbolically stoning the
Devil in Mina termed Ramee. The pilgrim, or the hajj, is honoured in the Muslim community.
Islamic teachers say that the Hajj should be an expression of devotion to God, not a means
to gain social standing. The believer should be self-aware and examine their intentions in
performing the pilgrimage. This should lead to constant striving for self-improvement. A
pilgrimage made at any time other than the Hajj season is called an Umrah, and while not
mandatory is strongly recommended. Also, they make pilgrimage to the holy city of
Jurusalem in their alms giving feast.

SHAHADAH

Meaning: I bear witness that there is no one worthy of worship except Allah and I bear
witness that Muhammad (peace be upon him) is his beloved servant and messenger.

Syahadah is so valuable that can pave the way by which we have been pleased to GOD and
go to heaven ... but what are the conditions?
1. Knowledge - Understanding the true meaning there is no god except Allah. He is the
purpose of life, He is the creator, the giver of sustenance, protection, focus and worship, to
Him throughout life, worship and love. But any self-reflection where we are focused and love
this time? Is the discussion and chat with friends or family members have mentions Allah
and the Prophet Muhammad? Are love and attention only to her husband, children? To
jewellery and home furnishings? To entertainment and entertainment preoccupied? To the
artist? To fashion and beauty? To eat and favourite restaurant? If so, that's the answer why
we are far from happy. Understand that the Prophet Allah's messenger who brought the
guidance and benefit of the whole, which is mandatory, and if that were possible.
Understand that reciting the Syahadah had a great impact on the rest of life. Changed and
obedient. God also buy ourselves with heaven, body and soul and wealth that we sacrifice in
His way. If we understand this, will feel very love of Allah, the Prophet and Islam.
2. Confident - Confidence will lead Allah. With the knowledge we are confident that the way
we've been through. Will not hesitate to our vision and mission to be the right path, even
though trials and temptations of the world does not stop come. We believe in power of
ALLAH everything, Most Merciful and Compassionate Allah, Almighty grant the prayer
servants. Confident of GOD will bring us motivated by kindness, but this is conditional for
Allah accept our testimony.
3. Accept - Accept all responsibility and trust given as a slave, the caliph, always striving to
improve themselves in many aspects, such as specific religious aspects and aspects of
human interaction. In fact, when we truly accept the testimony, it will help us face any
problem and situation with faith to Allah. We're not to blame, because a strong heart
relationship with the Lord assured the availability of the good in all situations and try all we
can to withstand the test.

4. Submissive and responsibility - we might not truthfully say we Syahadah while we do

not keep praying, do not remind people to the afterlife, do not hang out with good deeds and
tell our truth and patience. If not it true testimony to his character other GOD? Not sensitive
to the presence of GOD being named the animals and plants?
5. Honest and allow - Faith may not be valid only on the tongue or in words. GOD wants
FAITH WHICH DUE deeds along with the heart. Faith is often also tested to see its value.
Are we capable of moral character shown by the Prophet when we are under pressure and
stressed? As we drift feeling? Can still find GOD when pleased pleased to get away and not
running around? What we believe when you say you will not be tested? Based on life of faith
will not stop the test GOD, for GOD choose who is better and best. GOD always test us with
something we like and love, right? It possible for us to reflect on who we love more?
Unfortunately GOD on our right. GOD wants us to always find his love than the love of
others.

CAUSE

Syahadah are two expressions that must be uttered with the tongue and acknowledged with
a sincere heart to everyone who wants to convert to Islam. Namely, these are the two words
intermediary between a Muslim and non-Muslim. When a person before another faith and
wish to convert to Islam, then he needs to utter this Syahadah. Syahadah also be an
expression of Muslim teachings when they chanted prayer to call people to pray. The azan
will not receive if did not say a Syahadah. Syahadah pronouncement is not just to say they
are just about to enter Islam. Those who have been long Islam does not need to say it
anyway. Instead, as Muslims, we should always utter syahadah with renewed faith and the
faith of Islam (submission to God by following all brought by Prophet Muhammad). Whoever
that last sentence is 'La ilaha illallah' He will enter Paradise

EFFECT

Among the effects of the self-testimony of a Muslim is: Belief rule of faith. Perform worship or
the commands of Allah and avoid all His ban sincerely like prayer, fasting, pilgrimage and so
on. With good moral character as taught by Allah and His Messenger, such as trust,
responsibility, diligence, thankfully, mutual help, to uphold the dignity and so on. Allah says in
Surah al-Mu'minun verses 1-10 describes the characteristics of the believers:
1. Successful indeed believers
2. Those who humble themselves in prayer.
3. And those who stay away from the acts and words of vanity.
4. And they are trying to clean the property (with deeds of charity).
5. And those who guard their chastity.
6. Except to his right hand possess, then surely they are not flawless.
7. Then, anyone who wants

-Effect of the World - Providing happiness throughout life and not be lost.
-Hereafter effect - take testimony when met God and the word of God will ask in the grave
until the field together. Determine happiness in the next life.
-Effects that causes void the Syahadah:1. Associating anything with Allah
2. Trust in beings (fate hanging on the creature), the concept of God actually decreed
only.
3. Confident that the ideology carried by humans is better than the Islamic system.
4. Cursing the Prophet and his Sunnah.
5. The law of God into parody and playfulness.
6. Staring luck and play magic.
7. Helping Muslim infidels to spoil
8. Islamic thought that out of nothing
9. Pushing the part of the Koran and the Koran accept some

SOLLAH

Perform qiam

Tahiyat

Ruku

Prostration

Sollah is the second pillar of Islam. Everyday, we as a muslim must perform sollah 5 times
days and nights. Here is the way how to perform sollah:1. Firstly, before we perform the Sollah we must make sure our body is clean. Then, we
must perform the wudu. Wudu is a first thing that we must do before Sollah. Its
means you clean you body. In wudu you must wash your face, hands, hair, ears, and
legs. Next, wear the clean clothes and pray in a clean place.
6

2. Stand to face the Qibla.

3. Make the intention to pray.
4. Perform the Takbiratul Ihram ( raise your hand at the shoulder level and say Allahu
Akbar )
5. Perform qiyam (stand). While qiyam, you must stand up straight with your hands
folded. Then, recite Surah Al-Fatihah and recite a short portion of the Quran.
6. Perform Ruku ( bowing with hands on knees )
7. Rise up.
8. Perform Prostration.
9. Rise to a sitting position.
10. Prostration again.
11. Rise up to proceed to the next rakaat.
12. At the second rakaat, you recite again surah Al-Fatihah until the second prostration.
13. Perform the tasyahud at the end of the second rakaat. You must stay in a sitting
position then recite the tahiyat and then salawat.
14. If you are performing only two rakaat, this is the last rakaat. After saying the tahiyat
and salawat, say the durud also known as Salam.
15. If you are performing more than two rakaat, do not say the durud but you must rise
after the tasyahud to proceed to the next rakaat.

CAUSE
Why we must sollah. Here is the cause why we as a muslim must perform the sollah:1. Prayer Opportunity We Interact With God.
Established a link between a person's prayers to God His slave through delights of Sinai to
the Creator and expressed devotion to God to give all things to Him, seeking peace and
salvation from Him. Just look at the form of the prayer practices taught by the Prophet,
starting with qiyam (standing), bowing, and prostrating and i'tidal. All done with the purpose
to glorify Him, God is Exalted, Great. Why not? By His grace and blessings granted to us
both in terms of bodily health, fertility, husband and wife, parents and family. Not whether it's
an indescribable pleasure? Prophet s.a.w. not only teach you how to pray but also teaches
us with various hymns and prayers that you can practice as long as we do with prayers
starting with qiyam or stand up before we utter peace. This is what I meant as an opportunity
for us to interact directly with God, worship Him, praise and magnify God. It will not end until
we say Salam to him. Is it not a loss for us if we do not take a chance when we were with
Allah is to multiply the forms of prayer request, to turn away from the dangers of Satan and
not forgetting our forgiveness of Allah.
2. Reward Doubled Opportunity and Elimination Sin
Prayer is not only a contributor to a double reward, but it also got rid of the sins of the past.
Prophet Muhammad once said to those who do Fardh prayers from one Friday to one
another Friday, the second Friday of his sins will be forgiven by God, as well as anyone who
fasts during Ramadan with faith and hope that God will forgive are forgiven in the past. Fact
that the Prophet once likened the Prescribing offer prayers five times a day to his
7

companions as a bath five times a day ie Allah purifies whom the offering of prayers to the
removal of sins. In addition to prayer, too, not only are we able to get closer to God by
speaking like a rosary of praise, tahmid and interpretation when doing qiyam, bowing,
prostrating and other actions but also endowed with an infinite reward.
3. Shaping Faithful Powerful and Healthy
With prayer can also strengthen the body freshness. Prayer demands that all Muslims, wake
up as early as possible and enthusiastic in the face of daily tasks over by the rising sun. In
prayer, physical factors are also involved, namely in the form of exercise for the body
besides the convergence of mind. Exercises that involve standing up (qiyam) prostration,
bowing, and concentration through prayer body movements occur, and most of the organs in
a state of calm. With this prayer other than worship it is also a form of exercise daily body
structured in such a way in providing physical relaxation as well as the human soul through
movement while performing prayers such as the practice of bowing, i'tidal, prostrate etc as
mentioned earlier.
4. Developing Spiritual Strength of the Self
Prayer done with humble themselves can also regenerate believer in self and inner spiritual
strength to do that is useful in the face of all the difficulties and trials of life in our daily lives.
Prayers always produce joy and satisfaction, it can reduce anxiety and control anger. It can
increase the love of truth and humility towards the people, soften hearts, forming loving and
forgiving nature and the nature of revenge and hate. One can find ways to solve the
problem-the problem of temporal and spiritual. And one can check yourself especially when
one truly appreciate the prayers. The best time is after midnight when most people are
asleep and in a state of desolation.
5. Providing Mental Capacity and High Internal Strength
Apart from the spiritual benefits that can be gained through the practice of prayer can help
believers to always do good and leave the evil and shun evil and evil things, by prayer will
also be able to strengthen the moral and mental a believer. Through practicing the prayers
also pray to God, in this way could provide an opportunity for people to interact personally
with God, apart from being able to express the feeling is in their hearts through prayer
request to God. It also actually meets the counseling or Psycho Therapy as a haunting
sense of self pour on the second will help ease the burden faced. Even according to the
study, someone who understands the current reading prayers well have a healthier body
composition and thinking more relaxed after prayers than those that do not fully understand
the current reading prayers. In addition to keep a person's soul from the default character
can distract us the teachings of Islam.

EFFECT
Prayer is a duty required of Muslims mukallaf. Among the effects of such prayers:

1. Discipline
Discipline means "rules". People who pray will always comply with, the rules and voluntary
epoch in prayer. He will lead and prioritize required from the circumcision. With that, his life
will be in order (terdisiplin). Prayer also arranged for us to stay focused in life (Qibla and
prayer).
2. Conformity
Prayer teaches us about obedience to Allah, the messenger, the priest. In the congregational
prayer, there is a clear concept of compliance. That is not too left (two pillars fi'li) from the
priest.
3. Leadership
Who would be the leader, be concerned with the state-led. Not be burdensome prayers by
extending reading (if there are elderly people, sick and mothers). Reproach against the
priest must be courteous and polite with the best language, that the word "Praise be to God".
Means must reprove with God's intentions. Imamyang also be reprimanded immediately
repair the fault. If not, can Mamun mufarakah.
4. Purification and sanitation
To prayer must be clean of dirt and filth large and small. We performed ablution by washing
the ends of the member. Clothing, prostration must be clean and pure. When performs minor
sins forgiven. Must clean our hearts from other than Allah.
5. Care and timeliness
Always keep an eye on the arrival time. Can not default, to escape time. There are five
prayer times with Awake time will take care of us the act of vanity
6. Teamwork and unity
Simultaneous movement while becoming congregation. Straight row, close together and
heels are a symbol of unity. Allah will unite the land subsidence is benr prayer
7. Self control
People who pray always in control hearts, thoughts, feelings and members not to make that
work well into principles qauli, qalbi and fi'li. If there is making huge movements three times,
his prayers will be void. If his mind drift so da memory, and munajatnya relationship with God
9

will be interrupted. So it will continue berusahauntk control themselves in prayer and outside
prayer.

Effect for does do not perform the sollah:1. TORMENT OF LIFE IN THE WORLD

God's blessings reduce age.

Provision narrowed by God.
There is no place for him on the side of Islam.
Light lost works from his face.
Charity does not given any reward.

2. TORMENT OF DEATH WHEN SAKHARATUL

It will face the death sakharatul disgraced.

Death in a famine situation.
Death in an extremely thirsty even given water to drink sebayak seven seas.

3. TORMENT IN THE TOMB

God will narrow and constricted his grave with sesempit.

His grave will be darkened.
God will torture with painful until Judgement Day.

4. ON THE DAY WHEN THE TORMENT

It will be handcuffed and dragged to the field Mashyar by Angel.

He will not look at him with pity view.
God will not forgive our sins and he will be tortured severely in hell.

5. LEAVE SIN RATIO OF WORSHIP

Subuh Prayer - It will be tortured for 60 years in the Fire (equivalent to 60,000 years
of the world).
Zuhur Prayer - 1000 soul sin of killing a Muslim.
Asar Prayer - sin as it crumbled Temple.
Maghrib Prayer - sins like adultery with her mother it (for men) or with his father (for
women).
Isyak prayer - God is not pleased with it live on God's earth and urged it find another
earth.

FASTING

Breaking the fast

Meal in tray

Fasting is another unique moral and spiritual characteristic of Islam. Literally defined, fasting
means to abstain "completely" from foods, drinks, intimate intercourse and smoking, before
the break of the dawn till sunset, during the entire month of Ramadan, the ninth month of the
Islamic year. But if we restrict the meaning of the Islamic Fasting to this literal sense, we
would be sadly mistaken. When Islam introduced this matchless institution, it planted an
ever-growing tree of infinite virtue and invaluable products. Here is an explanation of the
spiritual meaning of the Islamic Fasting:
1. It teaches man the principle of sincere Love: because when he observes Fasting he
does it out of deep love for God. And the man who loves God truly is a man who
really knows what love is.
2. It equips man with a creative sense of hope and an optimistic outlook on life;
because when he fasts he is hoping to please God and is seeking His Grace.
3. It imbues in man the genuine virtue of effective devotion, honest dedication and
closeness to God; because when he fasts he does so for God and for His sake
alone.
4. It cultivates in man a vigilant and sound conscience; because the fasting person
keeps his fast in secret as well as in public. In fasting, especially, there is no
mundane authority to check man's behavior or compel him to observe fasting. He
keeps it to please God and satisfy his own conscience by being faithful in secret and
in public. There is no better way to cultivate a sound conscience in man.
11

5. It indoctrinates man in patience and selflessness, as through fasting, he feels the

pains of deprivation but he endures them patiently.
6. It is an effective lesson in applied moderation and willpower.
7. Fasting also provides man with a transparent soul, a clear mind and a light body.
8. It shows man a new way of wise savings and sound budgeting.
9. It enables man to master the art of Mature Adaptability. We can easily understand the
point once we realize that fasting makes man change the entire course of his daily
life.
10. It grounds man in discipline and healthy survival.
11. It originates in man the real spirit of social belonging, unity and brotherhood, of
equality before God as well as before the law.
12. It is a Godly prescription for self-reassurance and self-control.

Now, someone may be tempted to raise the objection: If this is the case with the Islamic
institution of fasting, and if this is the picture of Islam in this aspect, why are the Muslims not
living in a utopia? To such an objection we can only say that Muslims have lived in and
enjoyed a utopia in a certain epoch of their history. The realization of that utopia was a
phenomenon of a unique achievement in the history of man. We say unique, because no
religion or social system other than Islam has ever been able to realize its ideals in reality.
The reason why the Islamic utopia is not being established nowadays is manifold and easily
explicable. But to restrict our discussion to the institution of fasting we may say that some
Muslims, unfortunately for them, do not observe the fast or, at best, adopt the attitude of
indifference. On the other hand, some of those who observe it do not realize its true meaning
and, as a result, derive very little benefit out of it or, in fact, no benefit at all. That is why
some Muslims today, do not enjoy the real privileges of fasting. It has already been indicated
that the period of obligatory fasting is the month of Ramadan. The daily period of observance
starts before the break of the dawn and ends immediately after sunset. Normally there are
accurate calendars to toll the exact time, but in the absence of such facilities one should
consult one's watch and the sun's positions, together with the local newspapers, weather
bureau. Fasting Ramadan is obligatory on every responsible and fit Muslim. But there are
other times when it is recommended to make voluntary fasting, after the Traditions of
Prophet Muhammad. Among these times are Mondays and Thursdays of every week, a few
days of each month in the two months heralding the coming of Ramadan, i.e., Rajab and
Sha'ban, six days after Ramadan following the 'Eid-ul-Fitr Day. Besides, it is always
compensating to fast any day of any month of the year, except the 'Eid Days and Fridays
when no Muslim should fast. However, we may repeat that the only obligatory fasting is that
of Ramadan - which may be 29 or 30 days, depending on the moon's positions. This is a
pillar of Islam, and any failure to observe it without reasonable excuses is a grave sin in the
sight of God.

12

CAUSE

Are inherently human need to fast

"Every man needs to fast even though he was not sick, as toxins accumulate in the food and
drugs in the body and make it feel like a sick person and memberatkannya, the fitness
decreases. When a person is fasting, he will be free from the burden of toxins and he will
feel the vitality and strength not before experienced. "(Dr. March Fedan - The International
Medical). From the words of Dr. March Fedan above, it is clear to us that it is inherently
human desperately need a long time to rest the body of toxins continue to receive food and
medicine. This is because when drugs and toxins accumulate in the human body will cause
the body to become weak and vitality decreases.
Ramadan heat
Ramadan from the word 'ramadho' which means intense heat. In the Islamic month of
Ramadan is the 9th month in the Hijrah calendar. Fasting has difardhukan to Muslims since
the 2nd emigration until the Day of Resurrection. Normally in this very hot weather. In
conjunction with the name, may Ramadan will burn and melt all the sins that have been
committed by those who are fasting.

Ramadan advantages:
1. The Qur'an was revealed
This great event happened on the 17th of Ramadan when the Prophet Muhammad was 40
years old when he was berkhulwah in Hira '.
2. Moon wins
The occurrence of the largest victories achieved by the Muslims was the battle of Badr alKubra. This event takes place on the 17th of Ramadan, on the Friday of the first year of 2H
prescribed fasting in Ramadan. As we all know but God gave victory to the Muslims even
though the number of the army amounted to only 313 people from a total of 1,300 people
who disbelieve. Another great event took place in the month of Ramadan is the occurrence
of the event 'Fath Makkah'. It happened in the month of Ramadan in to 8D.
3. Full of blessings
Ramadan is a month called 'the beginning is mercy, forgiveness and ultimately kept the
middle of the fire. Abu Huraira reported that Rasulallah SAW said when the month of
Ramadan has come then open the gates of heaven is ditutuplah the gates of hell and is all
tied up demons.
4. Month of the sin
From Abu Hurayrah from the Prophet saying: "Whoever fasts Ramadan with faith and hope
for the pleasure of Allah, his sins will be forgiven in the past." (Bukhari Muslim)
13

5. Tarbiyah month
The month of Ramadan Muslims to educate the patient to be a slave. Also educate servants
towards doing good and educating human slaves of righteousness to all members of Allaah
keep doing things that are not pleasing to Allah.
6. Night of Qadar
Followers of Prophet Muhammad SAW is a very special race for one night having blessed
reward than 1000 months of worship.
7. Month observance
By doing organized practice done in such qiamulail Allaah fasting, the Quran Quran
recitation and prayer tarawikh Allah will bestow devotion to Him.
Why should break his fast with dates? While Islam encourages Muslims break their fast in
order to break his fast with dates and water. Dates will provide quick energy to the body.
When we highlighted the story of Mary, mother of Jesus U.S., she was leaning on the base
of a palm tree in seconds feel pain giving birth. Then God sent an angel to tell so shaken
sycamore tree to get a ripe dates. From this story we can conclude that the date could
provide energy to Mary when he felt labor pains Jesus U.S. Dates also coincides with the
Sunnah of the Prophet. Dates are very blessed fruit to eat. Prophet has bequeathed to his
followers to break with dates during Ramadan. Said which means: "When one of you on a
journey, he should break his fast with palm branches. If he is not, he should break his fast
with water because it is impurity. "(Narrated by Abu Dawood, Book Fast, numbers 2355 and
At-Tirmidhi, book charity, number 658). From Anas, the Prophet surely break the fast with
some ruthab before prayers, if there is no ruthab, then with some maturity date, if not there,
then gulped some water tegukan white. (Narrated by Abu Dawood and Tirmidhi)

Dates health food

Clearly behind the Sunnah of the Prophet contain many benefits for health. That's why the
Prophet chose dates than other foods to break the fast. This is none other dates have not is
because the content is good for health. If seen from a scientific viewpoint when seconds to
break, digestive organs begin to actively and should be something soft. This will cause the
digestive organs begin to gradually work to continue to digest food more weight. For
example in everyday life, to facilitate the movement of a vehicle it must be heated prior to the
14

move. It also aims to ensure longer life of the vehicle. The same goes for our bodies. Health
is indispensable to facilitate do not only worship in Ramadan. As the saying goes arabic
reads "Al-fil jismi salim aqlus ssalim" which means: 'aqal healthy birth of a healthy body ".

Dates of hunger and thirst

The situation is dire need of fast foods with simple sugars that can be digested and suppress
appetite. Most fast food nutrition digested and reaches the blood sugar especially foods
containing one or two sugars (glucose or sucrose). This is because the body can absorb
easily and quickly sugars in just a few minutes. Especially if the stomach is empty, as people
who are fasting. If we find foods that can match the two content at once (hunger, thirst), then
we will not find better food than what is recommended by the Prophet Muhammad. That
date.

Palm sugar
Based on the research, noted that the dates of the edible parts of equal weight contain 8687% 20-24% water, 70-75% sugar, 2-3% protein. While containing only 8.5% fiber. Based on
the study, also found that ruthab (fresh dates) contain 65-70% water based on the net
weight, 24-58% of the sugars, 1.2-2% protein and 2.5% fiber.

EFFECT

Scientists consider fasting as an important phenomenon and natural, where the perfect life
and good health can not be obtained without fasting. When a person or even an animal is
not fast, it will be a wide range of infectious diseases.
McFadon, a member of the American health, states: "Every person should fast, as fast if not
then it will be painful. Cause food poison accumulates in the body and make it like a sick
person, damning his body, and reduce vitalitinya.
"When he fasts, the body weight decreased, and decompose toxins from the body and out,
so that his body be perfectly clean and well back cells".

According to the study, between the health benefits of fasting are:

It shows man a new way of wise savings and sound budgeting.
It enables man to master the art of Mature Adaptability. We can easily understand the
point once we realize that fasting makes man change the entire course of his daily
life.
It grounds man in discipline and healthy survival.
It originates in man the real spirit of social belonging, unity and brotherhood, of
equality before God as well as before the law.
It is a Godly prescription for self-reassurance and self-control.
Fasting is another unique moral and spiritual characteristic of Islam. Literally defined,
fasting means to abstain "completely" from foods, drinks, intimate intercourse and
smoking, before the break of the dawn till sunset, during the entire month of
Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic year. But if we restrict the meaning of the
Islamic Fasting to this literal sense, we would be sadly mistaken.
When Islam introduced this matchless institution, it planted an ever-growing tree of
infinite virtue and invaluable products. Here is an explanation of the spiritual meaning
of the Islamic Fasting:
It teaches man the principle of sincere Love: because when he observes Fasting he
does it out of deep love for God. And the man who loves God truly is a man who
really knows what love is.
It equips man with a creative sense of hope and an optimistic outlook on life;
because when he fasts he is hoping to please God and is seeking His Grace.
It imbues in man the genuine virtue of effective devotion, honest dedication and
closeness to God; because when he fasts he does so for God and for His sake
alone.
16

It indoctrinates man in patience and selflessness, as through fasting, he feels the

pains of deprivation but he endures them patiently.
It is an effective lesson in applied moderation and willpower.
Fasting also provides man with a transparent soul, a clear mind and a light body.
At the beginning of the decline of fasting metabolism by 22 percent. But in the
following days your body adjusts himself.
Provide the opportunity for the system and the digestive tract digestive checkers
rest. Internal organs such as the intestinal tract and the liver into the 'eater' primary
energy less load.
Blood sugar levels down lower than normal at moments by the Sunset. But, never
reached the level of health hazard. Therefore, fasting is also safe for people with
Type II Diabetes Mellitus disease under control.

The rate of gastric acid by the increase at the Sunset on the first day of fasting. But
then returned to normal on the following days. This situation is actually beneficial to
the stomach as well as increase the level of this acid to get rid of the germs that are
present in the stomach.
When people do not eat for about 12 hours, the metabolism of glucose as a fuel
choice halt. The human body and then trying to find other sources of energy to do
glycolysis fat deposits in the body and decomposition of glycogen stored in the liver,
into energy and calories needed.
Stripping fat deposits in the body is quite beneficial to cardiovascular health,
especially as the heart and blood vessels. Some fats like cholesterol, triglycerides
and LDL sticks to the walls of blood vessels and increase the risk of blood vessel
blockage threat. This leads to a stroke or heart attack. Fat burning is essential to their
obesity. Reported when fasting really a foolproof weight loss occurs around three to
four per cent moderately. This is also beneficial in terms of orthopedics because
there are no more complaints of sore knees and joints as a result of excess weight.
Drop in the level of lipids in the blood mean decrease in the risk of gall stones.
Fasting also affect the brain concentration. Blood is no longer focused on the
digestive tract to the brain is able to get the optimum blood supply and be able to
think at an optimal level.
Fasting also rested kidney. The absence of fluid intake for ten to twelve hours that
causes mild dehydration can still be in tolerance by the body. In these conditions the
kidneys take advantage of the relaxation process liquid waste production. Organized
by the Prophet so we skip morning meal until Imsak approach and hasten the
breaking as early as possible to ensure that the situation is under control and safe
dehydration. Reduction of fluid intake were moderately lower blood pressure.
17

Certainly this activity for a month of fasting can be meaningful for patients with high
blood pressure.
Chemical elements in other blood showed no significant difference between the
fasting month with a non-fasting.

ZAKAT

Zakat is one of the five pillars of Islam, the literal translation meaning to cleanse or
purify. Paying zakat on your wealth purifies and increases the remainder of it, also
serving as a reminder that everything we own belongs to Allah. Islamic regulations
outline that zakat is 2.5% of ones wealth which is distributed to the poor. The
Prophet (Peace be upon him) said Whoever pays the zakat on his wealth will have
its evil removed from him (Ibn Khuzaimah and at-Tabaraani). Zakat in Islam is a
method of wealth re-distribution. It makes wealth circulate in the body of the
nation. The Qur'an demands that individuals take material responsibility for poverty
and suffering in the Muslim community (ummah). That is why the Quranic revelation
demands that each person give up a certain amount of material wealth to support the
poor, the indigent, the sick, and the suffering. Generally, charity in Islam is of two
types: voluntary and obligatory. A Muslim should pay a certain percentage of his
wealth every year; this is Zakat, which is obligatory charity. Other than Zakat, any
other money Muslim spent for the sake of Allah is voluntary charity (Sadaqa). All
Muslims, rich or poor are to pay charity proportionally. Zakah may be distributed
directly to individuals of one or more of the said classes, or to welfare organizations
which look after them. It may also be distributed in the form of scholarship to bright
and promising Muslim students and researchers, or in the form of grants to welfare
organizations and public service institutions which patronize such causes. A disabled
or invalid poor Muslim is preferable to one who is able and capable of making some
earnings. The contributors should use his best judgment in finding the most
deserving beneficiaries. The taxes we pay to governments nowadays do not
substitute for this religious duty; it must be earmarked as a special obligation and
paid separately, aside from the government taxes. However, the Muslims of North
America may take advantage of the tax laws that allow certain deductions for charity.
19

They should pay their Zakah to the deserving beneficiaries and then claim the sums
paid as proper legal deductions. The contributor should not seek pride or fame by
carrying out his duty. He should make it as covert as possible so that he may not be
victimized by hypocrisy or passion for vanity which nullifies all good deeds. However,
if the disclosure of his name or the announcement of his contribution is likely to
encourage others and stimulate them, it is all right to do so. Zakah is also obligatory
on the cattle and agricultural product. The shares payable in this regard vary form
case to case, and need detailed discussion. So the reader may be advised to consul
the elaborate sources of Law and religion. The Holy Qur'an classifies the due
recipients of Zakah as follows:

The poor Muslims, to relieve their distress.

The needy Muslims, to supply them with means whereby they earn their livelihood.
The new Muslim converts, to enable them to settle down and meet their unusual
needs.
The Muslim prisoners of war, to liberate them by payment of ransom money.
The Muslim in debt, to free them from their liabilities incurment under pressing
necessities.
The Muslim employees appointed by a Muslim governor for the collection of Zakah to
pay their wages.
The Muslim in service of the cause of God by means of research or study or
propagation of Islam. This share is to cover their expenses and help them to continue
their service.
The Muslim wayfarers who are stranded in a foreign land and in need of help.

The History of zakat payments Prior to Hijrah, zakat is only compulsory to those
wealthy people who are close with the Prophet s.a.w. At that time, the obligation to
pay zakat is based only on their awareness, willingness, discretion. An organized
system of zakat (for instance having the conditions for nisab, rate and haul ) was only
applied after the 2 nd year of Hijrah .
It is considered to be a personal responsibility for Muslims to ease economic
hardship for others and eliminate inequality . It is obligatory for all who are able to do

Zakat is an important duty for Muslim as mentioned in the Al-Quran: " Keep up
prayer and pay zakat". While prayer is a physical form of worshipping Allah,
22

zakat is a material form. Zakat is compulsory : "Take from their wealth charity
(alms) to purify them and to cleanse them thereby, and pray for them." [AtTaubah: 103] Zakat from the perspective of the Islamic Law
It is considered to be a personal responsibility for Muslims to ease economic
hardship for others and eliminate inequality . It is obligatory for all who are able to do
so. Growth (in goodness) or increase, purifying or making pure of ones wealth. Dalil
of zakat
In one hadith from Bukhari, Abu Hurairah (r.a.) narrated that the Prophet SAW said:
"Whoever is made wealthy by Almighty Allah and does not pay the zakat of his
wealth, then on the Day of Resurrection his wealth will be made like a bald-headed
poisonous male snake with two black spots over the eyes. The snake will encircle his
neck and bite his cheeks and say, 'I am your wealth, I am your treasure'. " Dalil
in Hadith
Like prayer, Zakat is from amongst the basic principles of Islam and not paying your
Zakat is a major sin.
He [Pharaoh] will go before his people on the Day of Judgment, and will lead them
into the Fire. (Surah Hud : 98) Allah (SWT) said,
Allah (saw) warns those who refuse to pay the Zakat: Allah (SWT) tells us in the
Quran: They who hoard up gold and silver and spend them not in the way of Allah,
Announce to them a painful torment O Muhammad (saw) On the day when it all will
be heated in the fire of hell, and their foreheads and their flanks and their backs will
be branded with it, (and it will be said to them). This is the treasure which you
hoarded for yourself, now taste of what you used to hoard. (At Taubah:34-35)
The first Muslim Caliph Abu Bakr As-Siddiq (r.a.) , said: "By Allah (SWT), if they
refuse to pay me (even) a bridle which they used to pay the Messenger of Allah
(pbuh), then I will fight them because of their refusal." [Muslim]
In another hadith by Abu Dawud, the prophet s.a.w said : Allah has made zakat
obligatory simply to purify your remaining property, and He made inheritances
obligatory that they might come to those who survive you.
The main aims of zakat is the worship to Allah for all His bounties to mankind AlBaqarah: 267 Oh ye believe! Give of the good things which ye have (honorably
earned). And of the fruits of the earth which we have produced for you. Assist the
poor and the needy Al-Dzariyat: 19 and their wealth and possessions (was
remembered) the right of the (needy). Act as a mechanism to distribute wealth Purify
ones heart and self from being stingy Al-Taubah: 103 Of their goods take alms. That

Some states in Malaysia have only 7 beneficiaries since nowadays there are no more
slaves (captives). However, there are other states which still maintain the number of
beneficiaries of 8 people. The reason - because it is stated in the Holy Quran that
there are 8 beneficiaries of zakat. Due to that, ar-riqab is implied as zakat for those
who would like to free themselves from ignorance for instance zakat paid to people
who would like to further their studies Discussions on the ISSUES: Are there 8 or 7

Qiyas Wealth Al-Nama Binafsih Al-Mal al-Nami Favour the poor and the needy
Methods to determine the sources of zakat
A method that will be used by the Islamic jurists and scholars in determining the
shariah practice if the subject /case is not mentioned in the Holy Al-Quran, Hadith or
consensus ( ijmak ). Qiyas is a practice to imply a subject with an existing shariah
treatment. The use of Qiyas in zakat is encouraged and it has been widely practised
by the Islamic jurists. For instance, employment income is subject to zakat because it
is similar to gold and silver. Therefore, the rate and the haul are equivalent to the rate
and haul of zakat on gold and silver QIYAS
Taken from several hadith: For instance, as narrated by Muaz bin Jabal, the holy
Prophet s.a.w had instructed his amil to inform the Yemen people that zakat must be
paid by the wealthy people to be distributed to the poor and the needy. Due to this,
there is an opinion that says zakat is payable on all wealth, irrespective of the
physical form of the wealth. WEALTH
This is a method to zakat wealth based on the concept of productive wealth
expansion Those wealth or property which could in nature expand or grow by
themselves for instance the agricultural produce such as paddy will fall under this
category of wealth. There is no haul condition to be fulfilled for this type of wealth.
Zakat is payable once the wealth is gained and the quantity is enough to meet the
nisab. Imam Nawawi and some Islamic scholars such as Ibn Abbas, Ibn Masud and
Muawiyah for instance suggest that zakat on employment should follow the method
of Al-Nama Binafsih. Thus, according to them zakat on employment income is
payable on the day it is received provided that it meets the nisab. The zakat is
imposed based on the method it is gained and not the type of wealth (even though
the wealth is received in the form of money) Al-Nama Binafsih
This is another method to zakat wealth based on the concept of productive wealth
expansion. However, it is imposed on wealth which is gained from property or wealth
which could not grow by itself for instance like business wealth. Therefore, zakat is
ony payable when it meets the haul and the nisab. For instance zakat on business
income will only become payable if it meets the haul and nisab. Al-Mal al-Nami
This principle is being used by the scholars if there are two reasons from two
different schools of thought to pay zakat on the same wealth at the same time.
Therefore, the approach is to choose the method that will favour the poor and the
needy For instance, when there is taraddud which means argument due to similarity
or ambiguity between two wealth such as should the rate of zakat for money be
based on qiyas on gold or qiyas on silver? Favour to the Poor and Needy

24

The jurists conclude that it is better to base on silver since the value is higher and
there is no disagreement on the nisab of silver that subject to zakat Reared animals
for instance could fall under either zakat on reared animals (al-saimah) or zakat on
business income (al-tijarah). In this case, normally the jurists will choose zakat on
business income rather than zakat on reared animals because it favours more the
poor and the needy. Cont - Favour to the Poor and Need

EFFECT
Zakat takes a part of wealth from the rich and gives it to the poor. It re-distributes the
national income. This process creates a fair distribution of wealth. Here Is The Cycle Of
Impact of zakat on economy (step-wise):

Wealth (which was stored) comes into the economy

Purchasing power increases
Aggregate demand increases
Income of people increases
Production increases
Employment increases
Ultimately, national income increases.
Social justice is achieved
The poor, diseased people that cannot afford the treatment are helped
It solves the problem of hoarding
It regulates the circulation of wealth
It encourages investment
It promotes co-operation and brotherhood
It discourages love for wealth
It teaches that humanity is more important than wealth.
It lowers the poverty, unemployment so it also lowers crime
It raises bargaining power of working classes

PILGRIMAGE ( HAJJ )

Hajj literally means 'to set out for a place'. Islamically however it refers to the annual
pilgrimage that Muslims make to Makkah with the intention of performing certain religious
rites in accordance with the method prescribed by the Prophet Muhammad .Hajj and its rites
were first ordained by Allah in the time of the Prophet lbrahim [Abraham] and he was the one
who was entrusted by Allah to build the Kaba - the House of Allah - along with his son Ismail
[Ishmael] at Makkah. Allah described the Kaba and its building as follows: "And remember
when We showed Ibrahim the site of the [Sacred] House [saying]: Associate not anything [in
worship with Me and purify My House for those who circumambulate it [i.e. perform tawaaf]
and those who stand up for prayer and those who bow down and make prostration [in prayer
etc.]."[Surah Al-Hajj 22:26]
After building the Kaba, Prophet Ibrahim would come to Makkah to perform Hajj every year,
and after his death, this practice was continued by his son. However, gradually with the
passage of time, both the form and the goal of the Hajj rites were changed. As idolatry
spread throughout Arabia, the Kaba lost its purity and idols were placed inside it. Its walls
became covered with poems and paintings, including one of Jesus and his mother Maryam
and eventually over 360 idols came to be placed around the Kaba. During the Hajj period
itself, the atmosphere around the sacred precincts of the Kaba was like a circus. Men and
women would go round the Kaba naked, arguing that they should present themselves before
Allah in the same condition they were born. Their prayer became devoid of all sincere
remembrance of Allah and was instead reduced to a series of hand clapping, whistling and
26

the blowing of horns. Even the talbiah [1] was distorted by them with the following additions:
'No one is Your partner except one who is permitted by you. You are his Master and the
Master of what he possesses'. Sacrifices were also made in the name of God. However, the
blood of the sacrificed animals was poured onto the walls of the Kaba and the flesh was
hung from pillars around the Kaba, in the belief that Allah demanded the flesh and blood of
these animals. Singing, drinking, adultery and other acts of immorality was rife amongst the
pilgrims and the poetry competitions, which were held, were a major part of the whole Hajj
event. In these competitions, poets would praise the bravery and splendor of their own
tribesmen and tell exaggerated tales of the cowardice and miserliness of other tribes.
Competitions in generosity were also staged where the chief of each tribe would set up huge
cauldrons and feed the pilgrims, only so that they could become well-known for their extreme
generosity. Thus the people had totally abandoned the teachings of their forefather and
leader Prophet Ibrahim. The House that he had made pure for the worship of Allah alone,
had been totally desecrated by the pagans and the rites which he had established were
completely distorted by them. This sad state of affairs continued for nearly two and a half
thousand years. But then after this long period, the time came for the supplication of Prophet
Ibrahim to be answered:"Our Lord! Send amongst them a Messenger of their own, who shall
recite unto them your aayaat (verses) and instruct them in the book and the Wisdom and
sanctify them. Verily you are the 'Azeezul-Hakeem [the All-Mighty, the All-Wise]."[Surah AlBaqarah 2:129]
Sure enough, a man by the name of Muhammad ibn 'Abdullaah was born in the very city
that Prophet Ibrahim had made this supplication centuries earlier. For twenty-three years,
Prophet Muhammad spread the message of Tawheed [true monotheism] - the same
message that Prophet Ibrahim and all the other Prophets came with - and established the
law of Allah upon the land. He expended every effort into making the word of Allah supreme
and his victory over falsehood culminated in the smashing of the idols inside the Kaba which
once again became the universal center for the worshippers of the one True God. Not only
did the Prophet rid the Kaba of all its impurities, but he also reinstated all the rites of Hajj
which were established by Allah's Permission, in the time of Prophet Ibrahim. Specific
injunctions in the Quran were revealed in order to eliminate all the false rites which had
become rampant in the pre-Islamic period. All indecent and shameful acts were strictly
banned in Allah's statement: "There is to be no lewdness nor wrangles during Hajj."[Surah
al-Baqarah 2:197]
Competitions among poets in the exaltations of their forefathers and their tribesmen's
achievements were all stopped. Instead, Allah told them: "And when you have completed
your rites [of Hajj] then remember Allah as you remember your forefathers; nay with a more
vigorous remembrance." [Surah al-Baqarah 2:200]
Competitions in generosity were also prohibited. Of course, the feeding of the poor pilgrims
was still encouraged as this was done during the time of Prophet Ibrahim but Allah
commanded that the slaughtering of the animals which was done for this purpose should be
done seeking the pleasure of Allah rather than fame and the praise of the people. He said:
"So mention the name of Allah over these animals when they are drawn up in lines. Then,
when they are drawn on their sides [after the slaughter], eat thereof and feed the beggar
who does not ask, and the beggar who asks." [Surah al-Hajj 22:36]

27

As for the deplorable practice of spattering blood of the sacrificed animals on the walls of the
Kaba and hanging their flesh on alters, then Allah clearly informed them that: "It is neither
their meat nor their blood that reaches Allah, but it is Taqwaa (piety) from you that reaches
Him." [Surah al-Hajj 22:37]
The Prophet also put a stop to the practice of circling the Kaba in a state of nudity and the
argument that the pagans put forward to justify this ritual was sharply rebutted in Allah's
question: "Say: Who has forbidden the adornment [i.e. clothes] given by Allah which He has
produced for His Slaves?" [Surah al-A'raaf 7:32]
Another custom which was prohibited through the Quran was that of setting off for Hajj
without taking any provisions for the journey. In the pre-Islamic period, some people who
claimed to be mutawakkiloon (those having complete trust in Allah) would travel to perform
Hajj begging for food through the whole journey. They considered this form of behavior a
sign of piety and an indication of how much faith they had in Allah. However Allah told
mankind that to have sufficient provisions for the journey was one of the preconditions for
making Hajj. He said: "And take a provision [with you] for the journey, but the best provision
is at-Taqwaa (piety)." [Surah al-Baqarah 2:197]
In this way, all the pre-Islamic practices, which were based on ignorance, were abolished
and Hajj was once more made a model of piety, fear of Allah, purity, simplicity and austerity.
Now, when the pilgrims reach the Kaba, they no longer find the carnivals and the frolic and
frivolity that had once occupied the minds of the pilgrims there before. Now, there is the
remembrance of Allah at every step and every action and every sacrifice was devoted to Him
alone. It was this kind of Hajj that was worthy of the reward of paradise, as the Prophet said:
"The reward for an accepted Hajj is nothing less than paradise."

CAUSE
Why Do Muslims Go To Hajj in Mecca?
Every year, millions of Muslims go to Hajj in Mecca, fulfilling one of the Five Pillars of Islam,
namely to make the Hajj in Mecca, the holy city, at least once in a lifetime if able to do so.
Yet in addition to fulfilling one of the Five Pillars of Islam, what are the spiritual reasons for
performing the Hajj in Mecca? Although the reasons for going to Hajj in Mecca may be
innumerable, this article sheds light on some of the deeper spiritual aspects of the holy
pilgrimage.
Why Do Muslims Go to Hajj in Mecca? Unity.
One of the fundamental principles of Islamic Spirituality is the principle of unity. Islam
teaches that not only is the Creative Power, God, Allah Almighty, One, but so is all of
creation and all of humanity. Perhaps in no other spiritual or religious event is this more
evident than in the Hajj in Mecca, during which millions of Muslims set aside all differences
of race, caste, economic status, nationality, and even sect as they unite in the holy
pilgrimage, each donning the simple two-piece white garb of the non-attached traveler,
allowing nearly no apparent difference whatsoever between men as they stand together
before their Creator. All men are equal before God as are the teeth of a comb. Prophet
Muhammad Quotes (SAW). After initially being indoctrinated in the unconventional belief
system of the race-focused Nation of Islam, Malcolm X only began to honestly realize the
true spirit of Islam after making the Hajj in Mecca, in which he sat, ate and slept shoulder to
shoulder with believers of every possible race and ethnicity, all equal before God and united
in Divine Love and brotherhood. Why do Muslims go to Hajj in Mecca? To overcome the
superficial differences the ego uses to identify and separate with. To achieve unity in soul
and spirit, unity of heart, and return to a purified state of oneness, reflecting the holy spirit,
nature and presence of God in creation.
Why Do Muslims Go to Hajj in Mecca? Focus.
Our lives, often engrossed and nearly entirely occupied with dunya, the external material
world of forms and appearances, leads to heedlessness, unconsciousness and loss of focus.
When asking, Why do Muslims go to Hajj in Mecca?, one of the most important reasons for
the Hajj in Mecca is to assert focus and regain consciousness. All created bodies spin in
30

orbits around their centers, axes, and the proper foundation and center for the life of a
human being is the Presence of God, a real and authentic holy spiritual connection to the
Creator of all that is, the One Power from which all things originate. The Hajj in Mecca
emphatically asserts, as throngs of pilgrims circumambulate the Holy Kaba in counterclockwise revolutions, that the center, the focus, of mans life is God-consciousness. There is
no more liberating choice for a human being than to consciously relinquish attachment to
creation and time, and to restore focus on the Eternal, the Unchanging, the Immaterial. Just
as galaxies spin around massive black holes that ultimately result in their annihilation, so too
does the life of man revolve around growing God-consciousness, ultimately resulting in the
annihilation of the self, the ego, and through that death, the awakening to eternal life.
Why do Muslims Go to Hajj in Mecca? Context.
Islam is not, and had never seen itself, as an isolated religion or phenomenon. To the
contrary, Islam has from the beginning asserted that the descent of the Holy Quran and the
prophethood of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAWS) were but the final revelation,
completing, clarifying and unifying all of that which was revealed before. Islam, the spiritual
path of surrender, did not begin with the Prophet Muhammad (SAWS), but rather began with
the first man and woman, Adam and Eve (AS), and continued as the central teaching of all
men and messengers of God, including the prophets Noah, Abraham, Moses and Jesus
(AS). During the Hajj in Mecca, Muslims honor the Holy Kaba originally built by Adam (AS)
as the first House of God when he awakened on earth, rebuilt by Abraham and Ishmael (AS)
centuries later, and finally purified by the Prophet Muhammad (SAWS) in the seventh
century of the idolatry that had invaded it. Why do Muslims go to Hajj in Mecca? To reaffirm
their connection to a much larger historical context, and to remember that Islam is not a
separate or unique religion, revealed to but a particular people, but that rather Islam is the
original message and path, the Way, surrender and divine harmony, as it has been revealed
from the earliest of times to the earliest of men as the road to peace and prosperity. The Hajj
in Mecca is thus intended to lead to greater humility and brotherhood with all of humanity in
the context of the realization that all prophets and messengers of God taught the same
essential truth.
Why Do Muslims Go to Hajj in Mecca? Transcendence.
During the Hajj in Mecca, millions of human beings stand together under the hot sun with
nothing but the ihram, a few pieces of white cloth covering their bodies. All the trappings of
life have fallen away, all worldly attachments non-existent and left behind. The atmosphere is
remarkably reminiscent of the accounts of the Day of Judgement, when humanity will be
resurrected and held to face what they sent ahead in deeds and actions. On that Day, it will
not matter what type of car a person drove nor will the square footage of the size of their
home be of significance. It will be irrelevant what temporal occupation they had. What will
matter is what positive difference one made in the life of another human being. What will
matter is the degree of responsibility with which we lived our lives. On that Day, we will not
be measured by our bank accounts as we are now, but by the level of spiritual and human
development we embraced. During the Hajj in Mecca, one cannot but be reminded of the life
beyond, the life eternal, when the world and all it contains has fallen away and all that
matters is the eternal destiny of the human soul. Why do Muslims go to Hajj in Mecca? To
transcend to whatever degree they are prepared for the world of forms and appearances, to
experience life and dignity beyond the limitations of materialism, and to irrevocably grow in
spiritual consciousness and awareness.
Why Do Muslims Go to Hajj In Mecca? God.

The holy pilgrimage of the Hajj in Mecca is not a once in a lifetime event to be experienced
and forgotten, but rather is a uniquely powerful spiritual experience designed to forevermore
change a human being and his or her focus. For the believer, the Muslim, the center and
focus of life is God-consciousness, awareness and clarity. The five daily prayers are meant
to continually reinforce this truth, this Way, and the full realization of the Islamic spiritual path
is obtained through a deeper realization of the significance of the Hajj. That realization is that
God is not in the Kaba, but rather the Divine Presence is to be found within the human
heart, the soul. It was when the great Islamic mystic poet Rumi realized this divine truth that
he began to circumambulate around the center and axis of his very own being, his own soul.
And so was born the practice of sufi whirling.

EFFECT

Hajj recalls a sense of connection with the Prophets (peace be upon them): from the
father Abraham of prophets who built the Kaabah, to our Prophet Muhammad (peace
and blessings of Allah be upon him). As pilgrims visit the holy places and redo the
prophets acts, they remember them.
The white colour of the pilgrims clothes: the white colour represents purity and
cleanliness of the heart. It means putting aside all beautification and showing unity.
Whiteness is nothing but a reminder of death and life in the same time. It is the colour
of clothes with which we worship the Almighty during Hajj and meet him when dead.
Entering into Ihram from the Meeqaat is a submission to Allahs commands and laws:
Allah prescribes that each one has to enter into Ihram from Meeqat. It is a
confirmation the unity of the Muslim community. Being restricted to one system
without exceptions.
Hajj symbolizes Monotheism (Tawheed) from its very first moment: It is the realization
and affirmation of the Oneness of the Almighty. Allah has no partner One in his
Essence, His Attributes and His Acts. Before the existence of the universe there was
nothing but Him.
Hajj is a reminder of the Hereafter when all the people gather in one place in Arafah
and elsewhere, without differentiations or exemptions. All of them are equal in this
place and no one is better than another.
Hajj symbolizes unity: Pilgrims wear the same clothes, perform the same rituals,
have got the same Qiblah and they visit the same places. Thus, the sense of
superiority does not exist; no king or slave, no rich or poor, we are all equals. Equals
in rights and duties.
Hajj represents the Muslim contentment: when pilgrims wear modest clothing, the
two white pieces of cloth and, this embodies sufficiency for them. Moreover, just one
room is sufficient for them to sleep.
Hajj establishes a harmonic Muslim gathering: We usually Muslims travelling alone,
However in Hajj they travel and gather in huge groups.
Hajj allows Muslims to exchange pieces of advice and benefit from them.
Hajj allows Muslims to meet scholars and decision makers from everywhere to study
the situation and needs of the Muslims worldwide.

He/she who performs Hajj his/her sins will be washed out, for Muhammad (peace
and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Whoever does Hajj and does not speak
any obscene words or commit any sin will go back cleansed of sin as on the day his
mother bore him.
Hajj is a proclamation which states that Islam is the religion of organization: the
performance of the rites during time is well organized, every rite is performed in a
definite place and at a precise time .
Hajj trains the rich to give up their distinct clothing and accommodation and makes
them equals to the poor in clothing and in the rituals of tawaaf, saay and stoning the
Jamarat. This teaches them Humility and reveals the insignificance of the worldly life.
Hajj develops good characteristics such as forbearance and putting up with
annoyance from people, for the pilgrim will inevitably be exposed to crowding and
arguments, etc. Allah says (interpretation of the meaning): The Hajj ( pilgrimage) is
(in) the well-known (lunar year) months (i.e. the 10th month, the 11th month and the
first ten days of the 12th month of the Islamic calendar, i.e. two months and ten
days). So whosoever intends to perform Hajj therein (by assuming Ihraam), then he
should not have sexual relations (with his wife), nor commit sin, nor dispute unjustly
during the Hajj. (Al-Baqarah 2:197)
Hajj trains the pilgrim to be patient and enduring to hardships such as heat, long
distances, being apart from ones family and relatives, crowdedness and congestion.
Hajj strengthens bonds with the believers, as represented in the words of the
Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): Your blood, your honour
and your wealth are sacred to you as this day of yours in this month of yours in this
land of yours is sacred. Narrated by Bukhari, 65; Muslim, 3180.
Hajj separates Muslims from disbelievers (mushrikoon) Allah says : O you who
believe ( in Allahs Oneness and in His Messenger Muhammad )! Verily, the
Mushrikoon (polytheists, pagans, idolaters, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allaah,
and in the Message of Muhammad) are Najasun ( impure). So let them not come
near Al Masjid Al-Haraam (at Makkah) after this year; and if you fear poverty, Allaah
will enrich you if He wills, out of His Bounty. Surely, Allaah is All-Knowing, All-Wise
(Al-Tawbah 9:28)
