Today we will learn:

-About symmetry and

symmetrical objects
-How to find a symmetrical
objects line of symmetry
-How to use concrete
objects to create a pattern
with a line of symmetry

WHAT IS SYMMETRY?

Symmetry is
when two
sides match or
are a
reflection of
each other.

Line of
symmetry

The line of
symmetry is
where you
can fold the
image in half
and both
halves will
match
exactly.

When an object has symmetry (like this butterfly) it i

called a symmetrical object.

HERE CAN WE FIND SYMMETRY?

Its all around us. This is because everything God made is ordered, logical,
and beautiful.

Great are the works of the Lord;

they are pondered by all who
delight in them. Psalms 111:2

WHERE IS THE OTHER LINE OF

SYMMETRY?

Line of
symmetry

Look at the pattern

tiles found in the
middle of page 383
for this image.

IS THIS SYMMETRICAL?

IN CONCLUSION
Today we learned:
-That symmetry is achieved when two sides
match or are a reflection of each other.
-How to find a line of symmetry
-There is symmetry all around us because
all of Gods creations are ordered,
logical, and beautiful.

Now lets put that

knowledge to use

MAKE YOUR OWN SYMMETRICAL SHAPE

Using color tiles and
your Lesson Activity
26 paper, you will1. Create a tile
pattern with a line
of symmetry.
2. Show me your
picture when done.
3. Then trace the
pattern on your
paper and color in a
way that is
symmetrical.
