My Philosophy of Education

My Philosophy of Education matches up with the theorists Maria Montessori and Robert
Coles. Maria Montessori believes children learn best through play and discovery. Letting them
explore their environment and basically teach themselves creates so many light bulb moments. I
thoroughly enjoy watching those light bulb moments because then I know I made an impact on
that childs learning that day.
Robert Cole discusses the theory of positive moral development. Young children also
learn best by watching their first teachers, their parents or guardians. They are perfectly
compared to sponges at a young because they can soak up so much in a small amount of time.
They are not aware of what is right or wrong without seeing the demonstration of such. I find
this to be so important because even though children may be young, setting them up for society
needs to start early.
Coles theory also ties into the idea of positive guidance. This is a strong belief of mine
when working in a class room. Rather than just telling a child no and going on, I find it
essential to explain to them what is wrong with the decision they are choosing to make and
encourage them to do something else instead.
These two theories along with many others are always with me when I walk into a class
room. My philosophy includes a firm, but understanding attitude with all my students and their
families. I want to positively encourage each and every one of my students and support them in
everything they do as if they were my own children.
