Design Competition Brief to celebrate HM The Queens service as the longest

reigning monarch of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
Proposal:
The Worshipful Company of Chartered Architects (WCCA), invites all Members and
Student Members of the Company to participate in a design competition for a
Triumphal Arch to celebrate HM The Queens service on 9 th September 2015, when
she will surpass her great-great-Grandmother Queen Victoria, and become the longest
reigning monarch of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
The winning design will be framed, and will presented to HM The Queen by the
Worshipful Company of Chartered Architects to celebrate her extraordinary service. It
is hoped the winning design will be endorsed by the Royal Institute of British
Architects (RIBA), and the Commonwealth Association of Architects (CAA), as well
as the WCCA, and that the three logos of these august bodies will be included in the
framing of the winning design.
The winner will be awarded a prize of two tickets to a special Livery Banquet on 17 th
June 2015, which is being held jointly with RIBA and CAA, when their achievement
will be recognised with a framed Certificate.
The costs of these two tickets will be funded by WCCA.
Method:
The competition will be administered by WCCA, and will be open to all Members and
Student Members of the Company.
There will be no fee to enter the competition.
Each Triumphal Arch design must be two dimensional, and must not be larger than
420 mm x 297 mm (A3) in size, or smaller than 148 mm x 105 mm (A6) in size.
It can be produced in any medium, on a sheet of paper or board, or on any backing
material max 3mm deep, which can be framed.
The Triumphal Arch design competition will be promoted via WCCAs website;
A short-list of 10% of the total number of entries, or a minimum of three entries
(whichever is the greater), will be selected by the Renter Warden Richard Brindley,
Court Assistant Valerie Owen, and the Master of Students Anne Markey. The overall
winner and two runners up will be selected by the Master, Geoffrey Purves.
Timing:
Competition advertised via WCCA website no later than Monday 23 March 2015.
Electronic registration/expression of interest via website by Monday 13April 2015
Entries submitted by email or post by 12 noon, Monday 11 May 2015. Late entries
considered only if post marked by 08 May, or courier stamped by 11 May 2015.
Short listing judging panel immediately prior to WCCA Committee meetings on
Monday 18 May. Masters selection of overall winner and runners up, later that day.
Winner and runners up recognized at the special Livery Banquet on 17 June 2015.
Winning Triumphal Arch design presented to HM The Queen, w/c 14 September 2015.
