BIOGRAPHY

He was an American singer,


poet and songwriter

Due to his songwriting, wild


personality and performances, he is
regarded by critics and fans as one
of most influential in the rock
music history

He was also well known for


improvising spoken word poetry
passages while the band played
live

He was born in Melbourne


(Florida) on December 8,
1943.

He read widely and


voraciously

He was inspired by the


writings of philosophers and
poets

He completed his undergraduate


degree at UCLA's film school within
the Theater Arts department of the
College of Fine Arts in 1965

He was interested in Native


American lore and the images of the
American deserts, dubbed himself
the "Lizard King

he was sentenced to six


months hard labor for profanity
during a concert

He developed an alcohol
dependency

he died t the age of 27 in


paris of a heroin overdose

No autopsy was performed,


and the exact cause of he is
death is still disputed

His grave in Paris is a shrine


to him, visited daily by numerous
fans.
