Timeline of John Quincy Adams

1767-John Quincy Adams is born in Quincy, Massachusetts and was the first ever child
to a president.
1778 to 1779-At eleven years old, John Quincy Adams traveled with his father to
France where he would then enroll to LEcole de Mathematiques which was a private
academy. At this time, John had also started a diary entry which he would keep with him
throughout his life until his death.
1780-John accompanied his father to the Netherlands to negotiate loans. Young John
then studied at the University of Leiden in the Netherlands.
1781 to 1783-Because of his fluency in French, John moves to St.Petersburg to
become secretary and translator to Francis Dana.
1783-By this time John returns to Paris to serve as a secretary to his father.
1785-Returned to Boston and began his education at the prestigious Harvard college.
1787-John graduated from Harvard and earned a bachelors in the degree of arts
1787 to 1789-John started to study with others north of Boston
1790-John masters his degree in the arts
1791-Started to practice law in Boston in a bar
1794 to 1797-John was appointed minister to the Netherlands.
1797 to 1801- Was appointed minister to russia which became a big accomplishment
for John
1801-John had his first child and was appointed legislature to massachusetts.
1803-John had his second child but sadly died to alcoholism at the age of 31
1807-John had his third child and switched parties from democratic to republican which
was a huge step in his life.
1809-James Madison appointed him to the U.S minister of Russia.

1811-Johns third child dies while in her first year in Russia.


1814-He headed the treaty delegation that ended the first war.
1815 to 1816- John was appointed to the minister of Britain.
1817 to 1824-John was considered most accomplished secretary of all time.
1825-John was elected the sixth president of the United States making this his biggest
accomplishment of his life.
1829-John lost the battle for his second presidential term to Andrew Jackson.
1831 to 1848-John was a representative for massachusetts for nine consecutive years.
1848-John quincy Adams dies of a stroke and is buried.
