Diffusivity Equation [Assignment # 1]

Diffusivity Equation for Radial, Single Phase Flow of a Liquid

Radial Cell Geometry:
Control Volume Element:
V = 2rh r
Velocity:

u=

Continuity Equation:

min mout = macc _______ (i)

Mass Balance Equation:

min = ( .2rh.u)| r+dr

mout = ( .2rh.u)| r

t

macc = m t+ t m t
Eq. (i)

( .2rh.u)| r+dr

t + ( .2rh.u)| r

t = m t+ t m t

2h [( ru)| r+dr ( ru)| r ] t = m t+ t m t

2h [( ru)| r+dr ( ru)| r ] =

m = .2rh. r.

For mass occupied by oil in the pores:

2h [( ru)| r+dr ( ru)| r ] =

Diffusivity Equation [Assignment # 1]

Conditions of Fluid flow into the Wellbore

Linear flow: It occurs in some reservoirs with long, highly conductive vertical fractures; in relatively long,
relatively narrow reservoirs (channels, such as ancient stream beds); and near horizontal wells during certain
times.

Radial Flow: Flow into or away from a wellbore follows radial flow lines at a substantial distance from the
wellbore. Because fluids move toward the well from all directions and coverage at the wellbore, the term
radial flow is used to characterize the flow of fluid into the wellbore.

Spherical Flow: A well with a limited perforated interval could result in spherical flow in the vicinity of the
perforations.
