Welcome to Miss Deckers

1st grade classroom!

Objective!
I can make a
bundle of 10!
1.NBT.B.2.a

Review
In class we have been practicing
putting 10 objects together to
make groups of 10 with a
number of different objects.

What you will need at home:

At least 11 pennies
At least 1 dime
A cup

The coins do not have to be real. They can be printed on paper, drawn on
paper by drawing a circle and writing D or P on the inside, or even plastic
money. As long as you explain to your child that you are representing
pennies and dimes. Please let me know if you need help gathering
materials.

1. Tape the dime or a picture of a

dime to the cup
2. Give your child the pennies
3. Ask them to make a bundle
or have them count out 10 pennies
4. Have them put the bundle (10 pennies) into the cup
This will represent the 10 ones becoming 1 ten.
5. If you wish you may practice counting how many coins there are by
using the dime (bundle of 10) and the pennies.
6. You may retry this activity using different numbers of pennies and
by increasing the number of bundles your child makes.
