Background
Ms.

Minnie
78 year old AA female
Obese
Born and raised in Lumberton, NC

Problem
Ms.

Minnie is a diabetic, and must


regulate her sugar intake, and monitor
her blood pressure
She needs assistance with keeping her
blood sugar in tact, and receiving insulin
Also needs assistance in knowing when
to adjust her insulin intake

Problem cntd.
Sliding scale
Causes numerous comorbidities (two
chronic diseases or conditions in a
patient)
Ms. Minnie has a history of bad falls and
should not be left alone .
When Ms. Minnie is not able to take her
insulin, she becomes dizzy which causes
her to fall

Staff Recommendations
-Continue having the IHA regulate Ms.
Minnies insulin intake and blood glucose
levels

Hypoglycemia

-Low blood glucose levels can cause


shakiness, fast heartbeat, nausea, dizziness,
impaired vision, seizures and unconsciousness
Treatment
-Consume 15-20 grams of glucose or
simple carbohydrates
-Recheck your blood glucose after 15
minutes If hypoglycemia continues, repeat.
-Once blood glucose returns to normal,
eat a small snack if your next planned meal or
snack is more than an hour or two away.
