The Great Gatsby Reading Journal

Directions:
Just as the narrator Nick experiences new people and places in
Northeastern New York in the story, you will also be
chronicling your adventures via a reading journal in your
composition notebook for The Great Gatsby. This should
be labeled in your notebook and responses should be
entered after each chapter is completed.
The Great Gatsby Reading Journal Rubric (2 Journal Checks @ 100 Points each)
Journals will be collected on two dates: April 6th and April 15th, so it is important to keep up
with the schedule readings. I highly suggest writing a journal entry immediately after finishing a
chapter because it is fresh in your mind. You do not want to wait until the last minute to complete
this assignment since there are a total of nine chapters.
Journal Requirements (One for each chapter, so nine [9] journals in total):
1. Heading should include the chapter number
2. Paragraph One: Write a short chapter summary.
3. Paragraph Two: Focus on one character/place/event.

Specify which character/place/event you chose to write about.

Select a quote which stands out to you and you believe best represents
the character/place/event

Use MLA citation

Discuss why you chose the specific quote and conduct an analysis
of the meaning

Write one sentence why you chose this character/place/event.

4. Paragraph Three: Write a personal response about the chapter.

Did you find the chapter interesting or did you dislike it?

Can you make any guesses what may happen in the next chapters?
