The number of proton and electron increase as we move

down the group.

ATOMIC SIZE

Atomic size increases as we move down the group, causing

the density to increase when going down the group.

MELTING AND BOILING POINT

MELTING AND BOILING POINT

Melting and boiling point increase down the
group.
Due to the increase in atomic size.
Thus, forces of attraction between molecule
increases.
Cause more heat energy needed to overcome
the force of attraction.

All halogens have 7

valence electrons.
Therefore, show

Chemical Properties of Group 17

Reaction of Group 17

Reactivity of Group 17
Down the group, the atomic size increases.
The outer shells filled with electrons
become further from the nucleus.
Therefore, the force of attraction between
the nucleus and valence electrons become
weaker.
Thus, the ability to attract an electron to
achieve a stable octet electron
arrangement decreases.
So, reactivity decreases down the group.
