Fermentation Lab Report

Natnapin Ketchaikosol (Pin) 11-3

Hypothesis:
If the yeast is added into the flask (with sugar), then the balloon
that is covered that flask will become bigger.

Result:

Flask with Yeast

Flask without Yeast

The balloon becomes bigger.

No change in the balloons size.

The water inside becomes turbid

and the waters color changes to be
cream-beige.

Clear water; no change

Have white stain above water-level

No stain

Conclusion:
According to this experiment, my result follows my hypothesis, my
hypothesis is correct. The reason that the balloon from the flask that
contain yeast become bigger is because there is a process called
fermentation happen inside the flask. Fermentation occurs when yeast
reacts with (consume) sugar, to produce energy, and ethanol and carbon
dioxide are produced as the product of this process. Therefore, when the
carbon dioxide is produced and there is no way to go out of the flask, the
carbon dioxide will automatically fill up the space inside the balloon and
make the balloon becomes bigger. However, inside another flask, there
are only water and sugar, but contain no yeast. So, the balloon of this
flask will never become bigger.
