The ISTE Standards cover this activity because the students will be using a drag and
drop tool to place the states into the correct location. They will be using the digital
tools before them to process the data and report the results afterwards.
LESSON PERFORMANCE
Description
Students will get into groups of two and use the website provided to drag and drop
the states into their correct position.
Time
The students should take around 20 minutes to complete this task.
Procedure
1. Pair up the students into groups of two and tell them to go to
http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/USA_G1_drag-drop.html.
2. Have the students work together to place the states in the correct location.
3. After all the groups have played it once or twice, ask the students to discuss
how they knew where each of the states went.
Check for Understanding
1. Walk around the room to make sure the students are on task and are
understand what they are doing.
2. Question the students on why they knew where to place the state.
3. Have the students break off and try it by themselves.
4. Have the students raise their hands once they are done and check to see if
they are understanding the placement of each state.
Use of Technology
Technology is useful in this project because it feels more like a game than studying.
Having it online helps because they can get immediate feedback on their score.
They could also use this at home to study.
