CODE BLUE PROTOCOL


The SH&CC will provide basic life support measures in the event of a cardiac and/or respiratory arrest.
Basic life support in this setting will include:
1.
Initiating CPR;
2.
Administering oxygen;
3.
Defibrillation if necessary.
In the event of a cardiac and/or respiratory arrest, a code blue with the location will be announced
over the P.A. system. All providers and nursing staff will respond to the code blue. The senior
provider/nurse on the scene will be the team leader. The procedure indicated below will be followed.
PERSONNEL
First person on scene

Second person on scene

PROCEDURE
1. Confirms cardiac and/or respiratory arrest.
2. Calls for HELP.
3. Begins CPR.
1. Ensures CODE BLUE and LOCATION
called on P.A. Call 911.
2. Assist with CPR.

POINT OF EMPHASIS
2. Call HELP loudly, even if no one is in sight.
1a. Nearest staff member.
1b. Nearest staff calls 911.

Third person

1. Brings emergency equipment.

1. Emergency equipment consists of Crash
