- Chromebooks (6)
Lesson Opening:
1) Transition students into the classroom (give each student a piece of
candy)
2) Activate background knowledge last 2 lessons on gratitude students
define
3) Purpose of the lesson is to begin writing both a personal daily gratitude
journal and a paper to someone that the student is grateful for
Procedures:
1) For right now, forget about the candy (if students are unfocused), the
first thing we are going to do today is talk about beginning our daily
gratitude journals
a. You are to create a new document in Google docs with a title that
contains your name and gratitude journal in some way
b. Then, you will write your first journal one thing that you are
grateful for and why and then share with Mrs. Rios and me. If
you search our names, then you will find our emails also, if you
do not know how to do this, I can show you.
c. Every school day, your job will be to add to your journal (if you
do not have computer access daily, then you can write it in an
actual journal and transfer it when you do have access)
i. Day 1: 1 thing youre grateful for, day 2: 2 things, etc.
new things every day; at least ONE big thing every day
students brainstorm
ii. I will be checking these at random to be sure that you are
keeping up
d. Give students 6-8 minutes to log in and complete & share first
journal
2) Candy Raise your hand if when you walked in, you received a mini
candy bar. Who received a regular sized bar?
a. If you didnt receive a regular sized one, how did that make you
feel? Can you justify feeling that way?
b. Address that students walked in with no candy (or at least
without the piece they received) should be grateful for what

they got, that attitude will help them in the long run to be happy,
etc.
3) Begin talking about the essay give students a sheet to brainstorm
with
a. Reiterate that I will not be reading these verbatim, just looking
for completion
b. Goal is to write a 5 paragraph essay that you will send to the
person you are grateful for hence why I will not be looking at it
c. Give students time to brainstorm and begin essay
