JO250 Class Notes

4/2/15
The worsening drought occurring in California has resulted in
mandatory water use reductions for the first time in the states history.
Governor Jerry Brown ordered these reductions, which will require
Californians across the state to cut back on their personal water usage.
Homeowners, farms, and other businesses will be affected.
The reduction in water use follows a winter of record-low snowfalls in
California. The statewide snowpack is expected to be 6 percent of the
normal. The lack of snowfall combined with a four-year drought has brought
about a new era. Mr. Brown describes this, QUOTE
Water is a key aspect of Californias society and economy. Golf
courses and major farmers rely on large amounts of water to keep their
businesses running. State officials are determined to achieve compliance
with the new water use reduction. If needed, they will enforce measures,
such as fines.
Broadcast lead:
California homeowners, farms, and other businesses will begin to
experience the effects of the mandatory 25 percent water use reduction.
