Self-Assessment of

Lesson 2
Name Sophia Evans
You will be using this form to assess yourself on the lesson you presented. Respond
briefly to the following questions.
1. Why did you choose this lesson?
With guidance from my cooperating teacher, I thought learning about the purpose
of a sentence was important.
2. What teaching strategies did you utilize in this lesson?
I used group work, constant rewards, and an individual assignment.
3. How did you know students had the prerequisite knowledge and skills to be
successful with this lesson?
They were already aware of common punctuation. That lead into talking about
sentence purpose.
4. During the lesson how did you adjust instruction based on your monitoring of
student learning and feedback?
I adjusted time allotted for different activities. I also had to adjust teaching
strategies when I had students act out. When this happened, I walked around the
room a lot more while presenting so that the students saw I was in control of the
class.
5. Cite evidence that documents student learning?
When I reviewed at the end of the lesson, I made sure every student answered a
question. This demonstrated their learning.
6. What were the strengths of your lesson? Cite evidence of at least two strengths.
I believe my two strengths would be having an attitude and speaking level
conducive to learning, and also keeping students attention by rewarding their
effort constantly. I came into the classroom with a positive attitude and was
excited to present my lesson. I believe my students fed off of this energy. I also
spoke clearly and loudly enough for everyone to hear and understand. Then, I also

try to reward my students frequently whether it was with a good job or a piece
of candy. I can tell they appreciated the recognition of their effort.
7. Now that you have taught the lesson, how would you plan and/or implement
differently? Why? (Remember there are no perfect lessons, discuss how you grew
through the experience)
The first thing I would have done was make this lesson a little bit longer. This is a
trial and error process, but this lesson ended up being a little bit shorter than I had
planned on, so the students had a few minutes at the end where they werent doing
much. I realize this is going to happen, so I have learned I need to come up with
more filler activities to fill spare time I have. The thing I want to improve upon
the most, though, is learning how to deal with defiant students. I cant believe
there were students talking out and refusing to do this simple assignment. I realize
that observing more in the classroom will help me with this. I hope to learn more
about this also in my education classes.
