2.f. The candidate for certification understands planning for instruction.

What: photos of lessons taught that show planning and preparation, lesson
plan, pictures of a math lesson showing planning of the instructional process
Who: Teacher Candidate
When: 2014-2015 School Year
Significant Details: I chose these artifacts because they showcase my
understanding and implementation of planning for instruction within the
classroom.

Analysis: Good planning is essential to an effective classroom. Planning is a

continual process that requires time and preparation. The goal of planning is
to address any requirements (CCSS), while focusing on the needs of the
students.
I start with the big picture a top down approach. As I begin my preparation
for the year, I examine the Common Core State Standards, my district pacing
guide, and my Montessori curriculum to determine what concepts must be
taught throughout the year. As I align these documents and curriculum, I
develop my long-range plan.
From this point, my team (lower elementary Montessori) meets weekly to
plan. Since there are four lower elementary classes at my school, we plan
weekly and discuss extensions and research to coincide with the lessons. We
try to move together through the Montessori curriculum.
It is up to me to develop my individual classroom plans. I am responsible for
being familiar with the lessons and the concepts. I am also responsible for
being prepared and collecting necessary materials for each lesson.
Observation and assessment is key to knowing my students and their
individual needs. It is essential to carve out time to do this so that I can help
children plan their work and so I know what lessons to teach each student.
The Montessori philosophy is to follow the child.

Planning: I would to do some more alignment with the CCSS, my district

pacing guide, and our Montessori lessons. I would like to create folders that
address the CCSS. I would like to list all the Montessori lessons that address
each standard and find or make additional activities to go on my classroom
shelves. Planning will be an ongoing and continual process each year.
