The teacher candidate understands support and intervention for learning

differences.
What: Lander observation suggestions for working with challenging
students, pictures of learning differentiation
Who: Teacher Candidate
When: 2014-2015 School Year
Significant Details: I chose these artifacts because they show my
understanding for learning differences in the classroom.

Analysis: All children are different and many learn differently. Some
students need special accommodations or extra help with achievement and
academic success. Some students may be classified with a learning
disability or a learning difference. These students may process
information differently or may need certain accommodations to help them
learn. All students deserve a learning environment that helps them to reach
their fullest potential. This means that some students may need extra
support and intervention to learn.
It is always a good idea, once learning differences are identified, to come up
with a plan. When a student is diagnosed with a learning disability, a team
is formed to create an individualized educational plan. This team is usually
made up of the classroom teacher, a special education teacher, a resource
teacher, the guidance counselor, and the parents. The goal is to give the
student support to help him learn. This is a good idea for any student that
has learning differences. I think that parents and educators should work
together to benefit the student.
Some interventions are simple, while some others are more complicated.
The goal is to communicate, to be consistent, and to teach the student
important skills for learning. In some cases, one might need to modify the
environment for support as well. For a child who is easily distracted, the
teacher may sit the child close to the teacher. For a child who struggles with
reading, the teacher may give oral instructions or read an assignment or
assessment to the student. For children who struggle with writing or motor
skills, lessons may be videoed for viewing or shorter written assignments
may be given. The use of technology may also be encouraged to aid
students with learning differences. Whatever the difference, the goal is the
same to assist and support the child.

Planning: I plan to continue to assist and support students with learning

differences. I would like to attend some workshops and do some extra
research on this topic. I would like to learn ways to support these students.
