Charlottesville High School Seniors Make Decisions for the Future Charlottesville, VA (May 1)-Typically, May 1 marks the date by which students interested in attending a four-year institution send in deposits to confirm their fall enrollment. With the average student applying to seven or more institutions, students have spent the last few months comparing residence life statistics and financial aid packages. As the day approached, efforts increased to narrow down the list of potential alma maters. At Charlottesville High School (CHS), May 1 is National Decision Day: a celebration of all students confirming their commitment to postsecondary success and achievement. Students entering the workforce, technical schools, apprenticeship programs, community colleges, and 4-year institutions were invited to make their decision to pursue such paths known. With assistance from the CHS Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program, Charlottesville Inflatables,Wayside Chicken, and community volunteers, CHS seniors with verified post-graduation plans were treated to outdoor food and fun. On Friday afternoon, nearly 150 CHS seniors could be found on the schools track field racing one another in an inflatable obstacle course, enjoying grilled hot dogs, and chiming requests for pieces of chocolate cake. Fridays celebration signified one last hurrah for the Class of 2014 before graduation day.
