My Interpretation of Standard 6

Beginning and all special education professionals will use ethical practices and procedures in order to
guide their instruction and relationships with their students. Special education professionals will instill
the practice of self-advocating in all students to help ensure the importance of self-worth and value.
Ethical practices will also be used when working with volunteers, paraprofessionals, parents, and the
community as well as influencing changes in the future of special education.
Explanation of Artifacts
The first artifact I chose for this standard was the Multidisciplinary Evaluation Report a school
psychologist completes on a student, in which services have been requested. Not only does this
artifact illustrate professional and ethical practice, it also illustrates what an evaluation would look like
across all grade levels.
The second artifact selected is an IEP conducted on a middle school student. Although this is another
middle school document, it illustrates the professional and ethical practices that would be carried out
with any student in any grade level. If the student was in preschool, the student would have a
document filled out called an IFSP (Individual Family Service Plan). This plan is incorporates the
entire family due to the age of the student/child.
The third artifact I selected is a student teacher evaluation conducted on myself by my Butler
University student advisor. This artifact illustrates the professional and ethical practices in assuring
quality instruction for all students of any ability is being given. It illustrates how a teacher works and
assesses students through observation and how the teacher is being assessed through observation.
The fourth artifact chosen is an evaluation I did on my 4th grade student, in which I tutored for 12
weeks. This artifact illustrates the professional and ethical practices I carried out with an elementary
student. A practice I hold true to carry out with all of my current and future students.
The last artifacts chosen are my education philosophy and my classroom management
framework for preschoolers. These two artifacts give an insight as to my beliefs on why and how I
will work with all students of any age and ability.
