Question 6
What have you learnt about technologies from
the process of conducting this product?'

Introduction
There were many technologies I used throughout
producing my opening sequence. I used different
technologies in pre production, production and post
production. Different forms of technology enabled our
production to overcome any problems and organise
ourselves for our main task.

Blogger
The technology I felt was the most important was the internet.
The website I used most commonly was blogger. This allowed
me to track my progress and help organise leading up to the
process of my film before filming and editing. Blogger enabled me
to upload posts of my time management sheet, and storyboards.
So I can constantly refer back to them to allow me and the rest of
our group to be clear on the ideas of shots and different
suggestions to begin our production. Blogger allowed me to
upload clips of different films I had studied to show I had
researched what would make a good idea of an opening sequence
in the genre of a horror, as well as showing I had studied different
camera shots and angles in order to include in my opening
sequence to make it effective.
When producing our film, blogger then allowed me to post blogs
about our process of how far we have got with our filming to
ensure everybody in our group is clear and understands what is
coming up in our production. Also, we used blogger to write

Serif Movieplus

Movie plus is another programme we used on the computer. Movie plus

was one of the most important programmes we used. This is because it
allowed us to upload the clips we took for our opening sequence to put in
order and edit effectively. Movie plus enabled us to make our opening
sequence effective because we could add in titles as well as cutting our
clips shorter ensuring that we have the best continuity and our sequence
flows so the audience do not get confused.

I have used this programme for my preliminary task as well as my main

task. Using this programme on my preliminary task allowed me to
understand the programme and how to use all of its features correctly so I
can use it to the best ability for my final piece.

I felt this technology was very important throughout pre production ,

production and production as it allowed me to crops clips, edit them in the
correct order and for my main task I could add titles and a soundtrack to
make my product more effective as I believe a soundtrack helps set the tone
of the piece to the audience. I learnt to take my time when editing as if I rush
I could make lots of mistakes.

Camera

The most important technology we used was the

camera for filming our sequence. The camera enabled
us to capture different clips of the character to put
together via movie plus. It also recorded the sound of
the character speaking. It was a good quality which
also improved how the video looked as it was not
fuzzy or blurred. We used a tripod to ensure the
camera was not shaking or moving. This became very
useful when we filmed outside in the wind.

Youtube
Youtube was also a website I used frequently. Youtube allowed me
to research different clips of films for me to analyse their different
camera shots and angles as well as the movement and overall
composition. It enabled me to have a wider knowledge on these
techniques as well as viewing different films to see what is
effective and what isn't. For example, I watched one film clip
which showed how sound effects were not effective as they were
not in time with the action. However, I also viewed clips such as
action in the James bond film which I studied the different camera
shots and how they were effective. For example, when James Bond
was stood on a crane, they used a high angled shot to show the
height he was at so build tension and make it more dramatic.
I believe Youtube has been very helpful leading up to my main task
as it allowed me to broaden my knowledge on what was effective
to include in my product. I was also able to study different opening
sequences of horror films so I could use some of the ideas in my

Sound
I also used different websites to improve the sound of my product and
the research I did before. In my preliminary task I used free sfx. This
enabled me to download different sound effects. For example, I made a
war scene and used free sfx to include gun shots in the soundtrack. I
then went on to use free sfx in my main task, when there was a noise in
the cellar. Free sfx was very useful as there were so many sound effects
to choose from for the necessary sound I wanted.
Soundcloud and free music archive became important for our main task.
This is because in our main task we had to include a soundtrack, so
these websites allowed us to find non copy written music to include in
our product. These websites were useful to us because they allowed us
to choose the type of music we wanted to fit in with our opening
sequence.
We agreed that including a soundtrack in our final piece was very
important as it helped set the scene and if the music was correct it
would build up tension due to it being a horror. We used different

Mobile phones
Another form of technology we used throughout
producing our main task was a mobile phone. Our
phones allowed me and our group to communicate to
ensure everybody is fully aware of our stage in the
process of producing our opening sequence. We
messaged each other to ensure that the actor
remembered the costume for filming so we were
organised. This helped us to feel prepared and
organised for filming.
