COLLEGE PARK, MD Figures indicated an 8.7 percent increase of minority

Student self-reported data show an increase of minority enrollment from 1,540
students five years ago to 1,899 students this year.
This university has taken a significant step forward, President Wallace D. Loh
said. Our many efforts of recent years are beginning to produce the desired results.
According to UMDs self-reported data:
Hispanic enrollment increased by 28 to 452.

Black enrollment increased by 34 to 678.

Enrollment of Asian students increased by 44 to 565.

Enrollment of American Indians increased by 46 to

204.

The increase in minority students is a gratifying sight for the

many students, faculty and administrators who have worked for it,
Loh said. We still have more to do. This is only the beginning.
