from other cultures including
Etruscans.
Content Life in Ancient Rome during Etruscan Rule. What the Romans (Latins) learn from other
cultures. Why Etruscans were in charge and how Roman power grew and they took over the
Italian Peninsula.

List the objectives for this lesson. Students will understand where Ancient Rome is located,
how and what the Latins learned from other cultures, and how the Etruscans ruled the area, as
well as how their power declined over time.
How will you teach the content? Students will choose a card to indicate whether their group is
Latin or Etruscan. Students will then use certain websites to choose a cultural name. Once they
have determined their origin, analyze a map of present-day Italy and its surrounding area, along
with other information to determine the best place for their group to settle. Once settled, the game
begins. Students will study trade for their chosen group and simulate trade with other groups.
They will then demonstrate their knowledge of Ancient Roman Trade. Students will then regroup
to find out about Etruscan Rule on the Italian Peninsula. An Etruscan king will be declared and
groups will interact again.
Additional materials you will use and how will you use them. Students will use tablets or
computers, textbooks, pencils and paper to obtain information for their group.

Evaluation Strategies Students will be evaluated through teacher observation, within the game by
answering questions and after a culminating activity to demonstrate their knowledge of the
objectives. Students will have choices pertaining to how they demonstrate knowledge. They can
choose to explain what they learned in a video, screencast, story board or quiz.
