1. The pond is ready for ice skating because the water has frozen and
the temperature can keep the ice frozen.
2. Vaporization: a process of something becoming a vapor.

1. TV, iPhones, Tablets, Clocks, and others
2. Because the screen on a phone is LCD and that is sensitive to heat,
if you leave it outside the screen could melt and ruin the phone.

Shape: Definite
Volume: Definite
Interpret Diagrams: The particles in a solid are closely packed together
and this makes it a fixed shape. The molecules do not have a lot of room
to move around in so they vibrate in place.
Page 42

1a. The two types of solids are crystalline and amorphous.

1b. The particles in a solid are not motionless, the particles in a solid are
closely fit together and vibrate in place because it is a fixed shape.
1c. The candle is a crystalline solid.
I get it! Now I know that a solid has a definite shape and volume because
a solid does not change to fix a container. Solids have a fixed shape.
Page 43
Cause: The particles are free to move.
Effect: A liquid has no definite volume.
Shape: Definite
Volume: Indefinite

Interpret Diagrams: A liquids particles can slide and glide so it can get out
of the way for you when you jump into a liquid.
Page 44
Infer: Water beads up on the surface of the leaves because water
molecules attract each other strongly.
2a. A substance that flows is called a fluid.
2b. A liquid is able to flow because the particles in a liquid slide and glide
around each other and this creates movement.
2c. A liquid with a higher viscosity can easily move and flow when a liquid
with a lower viscosity moves a lot slower (like honey).
I get it! Now I know that a volume has a definite volume but not a definite
shape because when the particles slide and glide they can glide, but will
not always take the shape of the container.
Page 45
Shape: Indefinite
Volume: Indefinite
Interpret Diagrams: The particles in a gas are spread apart and have lots
of movement and energy.
Page 46
Calculating Pressure: 6,404.5 Pa
Interpret Photos:
A; increases, decreases
B; decreases, increases
Page 47
Explain: The hot particles are moving more than the cooler particles
because the hotter the particles the more energy and motion.
3a. They are related because both of the particles have movement, when
the gases particles moving out (the pressure exerted) or the gas particles
moving.
3b. Because the pump is putting more gas and particles which creates
more gas pressure.
I get it! Now I know that a gas has neither a definite shape nor definite
volume because The molecules will also move to fill the container and it
will always fill the container.
