Task One: Travel Planning

Overview: This task involves finalizing an itinerary for a trip between a


travel agent and a customer.
Stage 1: Priming task. Students listen to a recycled and modified
reading passage (originally from Lesson 7, pp82) and answer
questions. The grammatical structures are high lightened.

Stage 2: Reading task. Students are divided equally into two roles.
One is a travel agent, and the other is a customer. The two roles are
given different reading materials. Customers reading materials include

authentic documents such as a copy of a passport, a travel visa, plane


ticket, etc. Travel agents reading materials include different travel
itineraries meeting different needs. Form is provided for each role to fill
in.

Stage 3: Planning. In pairs, students are asked to change/check


information between a customer and a travel agent. According to the
ideas they get from each other, finalize a trip itinerary.

Stage 4: Target task. Students are asked to present their finalized


itinerary for the trip and explain the reasons for the finalized itinerary.
Stage 5: Post task. Students are asked to research weather
information about the related cities.
