EE2350 - "Circuit Analysis I" - Fall 2014

Homework 9
Assigned: Friday, 7 November
Due: Friday, 14 November in class
Reading:
Franco, Sections 9.1 through 9.4 of Chapter 9.
Problems:
1) After the network reaches a steady state, the switch closes at time t=0:

- vC +

L1 50mH i
L

R1 1.6k
t=0
I1 12.5mA

R2 400

Find an expression for the inductor current iL(t) for t>0 and sketch a plot.

C1 50nF

2) After the network reaches a steady state, the switch opens at time t=0:

- vC +

R1 30

R2 10

t=0
L1 10mH

C1 5F
V1 5V

Find an expression for the capacitor voltage vC(t) for t>0 and sketch a plot.

3) Quartz crystal resonators form the frequency reference for a wide variety of
electronic systems. These are electro-mechanical vibrating systems, and their
equivalent electrical circuit behavior, in the simplest case, can be modeled by a
series R-L-C network, as in:

b) Find the period of damped oscillation T d=

c) In the circuit above the switch establishes an initial steady state voltage across Ceq and then starts a
transient response at time t=0. Find the time at which the amplitude of the oscillations decay to half its
initial value, within a good approximation. How may oscillation periods does this time cover?

4) After steady state is reached in the circuit below, the switch changes state at time t=0. Assume the
opamp is ideal:
