Content and Achievement Standards -Singing, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music. a. sing independently, on pitch, and in rhythm, with appropriate timbre, diction, and posture while maintaining a steady tempo. -Understanding relationships between music, the other arts, and disciplines outside the arts a. identify similarities and differences in the meanings of common terms used in the various arts Class Goals and Objectives -Strengthen students singing through meaningful participation in singing activities. -Develop students sense of pitch and rhythmic awareness -Introduce the concept of musical phrasing Materials -The Fox- teacher reference only Procedures 1. Students will discuss their favorite animals. 2. Students discuss about animals that are out at night. 3. Students will listen to teacher sing The Fox 4. Students will learn the song in segments 5. Students will put the whole thing together 6. Students will be asked how they were told taught the song. (in chunks) 7. Students will learn that these small chunks of a song are (sometimes) called phrases. 8. Students will listen as teacher explains how musical phrases and sentences are very similar. 9. Students will sing the song again, this time taking breaths where they believe a phrase ends. Assessment of Goals and Objectives Assessment will be informal and achieved by monitoring the room during final performance to make sure students are singing on pitch, maintaining a steady beat, and singing with the correct phrasing. Questions will also be asked to review the phrasing that was covered. Follow up Lessons Future lessons will include songs covering a broader range of phrases; longer, shorter, and varying lengths of phrases in other songs. Plans could also go into depth about measures, beats, barlines, and more music theory oriented material.
