Brief description and The students have begun cooking weekly in the classroom and as an extension to that lesson we
rationale for the lesson will be learning songs about food and cooking. Reciting songs and choreography about cooking
will help the students with memorization by also engaging their creativity. Music can be
integrated with other curriculum areas. One example of this is phonological awareness and
mathematics (counting beats or building spacial awareness). (Copple et.al.,2008)

Procedures (step by step) Objective(s)
Students will be able to memorize songs and choreography
My anticipatory hook is to have the children sit on the rug and begin by singing a song about hot
chocolate by using my hands as a cup. I will ask the children to join in singing and doing the hand
gesture. When we finish singing I will ask them if they would like to learn other songs about food
and cooking and relate it back to how we have been cooking in the classroom. I will ask them
what food they would like to sing about.
Once I teach the first verse of the song I will ask the students to join in and sing the song with
me. I will show them how to use the instruments properly and safely and then have them try.
Then we will all sing the songs together and learn the choreography.
Lesson Plan for Preschool-Grade 2
I will tell students that they will be creating their own song/dance about food.
Independent Practice (during small group activity, working with partners, or independently)
For independent practice, I will give the students some time to explore the materials
independently. Then, I will have them work independently coming up with a song on their own
about food.
Closure (sharing/reflection, next steps)
To close, I will have them share the song they created on their own or to sing the song that they
enjoyed learning the most. During this time they can also use the materials to demonstrate what
song they made or want to sing again.
