Final Lesson Plan Reflection

When writing this lesson plan, without implementing it first, it was originally intended for

early toddlers, but I quickly changed that when I remembered that the Skyriders classroom

has a morning meeting every Monday, while I am in the classroom. During this morning

meeting time, Miss. Katie will do tasks such as change jobs, talk about the day and let the

song selector pick the song to dance to. I always remembered seeing how some of the

students would be interested in certain songs and others not so much. This is what led me to

thinking that implementing this lesson in the classroom would be a great idea.

When I felt as though there were enough students in the classroom, I think there ended

up being seven or eight there at the time, I asked them to gather with me on the carpet. The

students were very eager to get there and listen to what was to be talked about during

morning meeting. I grabbed the iPad and asked the song selector to come and pick an

interactive dancing video from a YouTube playlist The Bombeck Center uses. I hung up the

iPad so all students could see the dance moves in the video. Quicky all the students and I

were doing the moves showed on it and dancing to the music.

The students loved that myself and the other UD student in the classroom, Nicole, were

participating with them. The first song and video played got everyone very excited and the

excitement stayed until the very end of the first song. I personally loved that they were all so

excited because that showed me that they were excited for me to “teach” them and calmed

my nerves a lot when starting. There was only one student through the first song that wasn’t

too into it, I think he was tired.

After the first song, they were so excited, they convinced me to play another interactive

song for all of us to dance along with. So, the song selector came and picked another video

off the YouTube playlist. This song started off a little slower so mot as many students were

interested as in the beginning of the song. As a few moments passed, students began to

realize that this one is just as fun, or in a student’s words, “this is my most favorite one.” After

listening to all the joy dancing to these videos brought to the students made me very happy

and pleased when picking this lesson over the other three, but also when implementing.

Overall, I am very pleased with how my lesson plan implementation went. It went

according to plan without any issues or injuries. If I was able to teach this lesson over again, I

would probably just choose the songs out for the lesson instead of letting the song selector

pick them all out. I learned that young kids love to move and it’s great to keep them watching

something like the iPad because that is what keeps there attention.
