Inequality on Marriage
As views have changed, there are more and more women who seek a job rather than a
husband. This situation has come not only as a result of women having to endure inequality
in the past, but also as a way to beat it back. Moreover, women with a career enjoy more
independence, freedom, and respect and find confidence and feel accomplished.
Most of the women who choose a career over a husband have been educated with these
views. They are aware of the existence of this kind of inequality and also have knowledge
of the women who have fought against it and who have achieved their goals on their own,
and find models in these women. In addition to this, women with these views have also
realised that husbands cannot really assure them economic support. If husbands become ill
or die wives with no other support are left with no one else to depend on.
Besides from reaching independence and being able to support themselves, studying a
career provides women goals and personal fulfilment. Through it they learn they are the
ones who can decide who they want to be and how they want to live. They gain the ability
to choose with which kind of couple they want to spend their lives.
Mens status as breadwinners is the main thing which has led through many years to the
belief that women are not equal. Since men are their supporters, women undertake the task
of housekeepers as retribution for their husbands support. Once women become aware of
all of that they no longer picture themselves having to live according to mens expectation
as a having a career frees them from conventional tasks and they can choose to perform the
ones that match their own convictions.
From all of this we can conclude that women nowadays prefer to study not because
marriage is unequal, but to make marriage equal. Though there are still men who cannot
accept women are as capable as them, the truth is that only when men and women regard
each other with admiration and pride of each ones achievements, a couple can attain
equality and respect.
