A Tughra is a calligraphic signature that started

in the Ottoman Empire. This signature appeared
on all official documents and correspondence.
The Tughra was designed at the beginning of the
sultan's reign and drawn by the court
calligrapher on written documents. The first
Tughra belonged to Orhan I (12841359), the
second ruler of the Ottoman Empire and it
evolved until it reached the classical form in the
Tughra of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent
(14941566).
A single Tughra takes almost twelve hours to be
completed and it is a prestigious and
personalized gift for important clients, friends or
