Pediatrician

A pediatrician is a doctor who specializes in the


care of children. They provide health
maintenance for healthy children and medical
care for children who are ill. Pediatricians focus
on babies, children, and young adults from birth
to 21 years old. Pediatricians diagnose and
treat; infections, injuries, genetic defects,
organic diseases and dysfunctions. Also,
pediatricians work with other medical and
healthcare specialists to provide for the health
for children.

After completing college, one will need


to attend four years of Medical School.
After this, you are a "general" doctor.
These doctors go on to learn a specialty
in medicine, such as pediatrics. This
means at least three more years of
"Residency" training. After completing
these three years, you are now a
pediatrician and are "eligible" to
become "certified" in pediatrics by
passing a test that has to do with
medical conditions that have to do with
infants and children. Overall, you would
need eleven years after high school.
College-4 years: $ 40,000 - $160,000

Residency - 3 years. Income of
$30,000 - $45,000/year.

A typical day being in this occupation is, the


day usually begins by going to the hospital
and seeing new babies and any sick kids that
have been hospitalized. Next, office hours
usually begin at 8:30 -5:00 pm, with at least
a half hour for lunch. During this time,
pediatricians see kids in two basic types of
appointments. Appointments for kids who are
sick, and well child appointments, when kids
get their checkups and shots. The average
pediatrician sees about 127 patients a week,
including those in the office and hospital.

Pediatricians make average salary of


$101,548, while pediatricians with
more than 20 years in the job earn an
average of $136,586.
