Definition of Transformation
Transformation is the thorough or
dramatic change within form or
appearance. Transformation can
occur within a central character or
an entire story. Transformation is
not a subtle response to change , it
is an overhaul of the entire entity.

This will be our focus. Lets look at how
film has been used as a medium to
transform stories into modern-day re
tellings or complete transformations.

Twelfth Night
A play about a young
woman who is restricted
from participating in
several activities due to
her gender.
She pretends to be a man
in order to play the part
of a character in a play
Ends up falling in love
with a male character but
he thinks she is a boy so
she cannot show her
feelings

 A film which centres

around The Twelfth
Night and Romeo and
Juliet. The main story is
that of Viola from Twelfth
Night.
This film is an example of
transformation as it
transforms the original
stories and creates a
completely different view
of the plots and
characters.

Shes the Man

This film follows the
same structure and
story line as Twelfth
Night.
Most of the character
name are the same
and some of the
original
Shakespearean
dialogue is included in
the film

Emma
A story about a young
girl who is determined
to put other peoples
happiness before her
own.
She plays the part of
cupid in the hopes of
trying to bring love
into the lives of others
Little does she know,
her love was in front
of her eyes the wholes
time.

This film is a complete

The main character lives
in a privileged world but
this does not affect her
character
She tries to play cupid
with all characters; from
her teacher to the new
girl to her father.
She is completely
unaware that her prince
charming is in front of the
whole time.
