The Mimic:

Statement of intent: What I am aiming to do with this episode is to

evoke intrigue in this new case, plus his new surroundings dont seem to
add up or make logical sense. Fletcher is in a country with culture and
locations he doesnt know. Hes past has come back to haunt him at the
most inopportune time, I want the audience both be aware and connect
with parts of Fletchers life. For this part of the series with Fletcher trying
tackle the Mimic case I will hope the audience are trying to figure out
who it is along with Fletcher.

Budget: There is no need for a budget as the actors are working for
free. The studio does not require a rental. Equipment is already owned by
myself and the sound effects and music used will be created by myself or
downloaded from royalty free websites.

Storyline: In this episode P.I. Fletcher is told he is to be transferred by

request from Scotland Yard to assist them on a case due to a
recommendation from the commissioner. They have been running into
countless dead ends on what the press has named the Mimic case. This
episode opens with Daemon bringing the audience up to date on his
transfer and his boat trip. We are brought into the present with Daemon
being escorted by Saul Mailmun to the commissioners office as Fletcher
(and the audience) are given a brief overview on the events of the
Mimic. Fletcher and the commissioner catch up over a whiskey and
discus the mater of the Mimic. Fletcher is told that this illusive Mimic

has been copying famous crimes and murders. Most notably the recent
case has been a twist on the infamous Jack the Ripper. Its now late at
night and Fletcher and the commissioner are driving to the recent crime
scene talking more about this Mimic character. We learn that at every
crime scene there has been a trophy left plus every lead they have ends
up useless. This man (or woman) is a master: Disguise, planning or
escapes. You name it this person is always a mile ahead of the police.
After they arrive and have swept the crime scene they have a brief chat
with some of the people at the site (P.C Rothers and one of the eye
witnesses). The commissioner wraps up the visit and drives Fletcher to his
hotel. The audience is left alone with Fletcher cogitating. He knows very
little about this case and already has a feeling of pessimistic reluctance,
something doesnt feel right and as he lays down with his drink in hand we
hear echoes of his past run around inside his head. Downing his drink the
voices recced and the detective is able to sleep. (Could go from here with
him being kidnapped?) Fletcher is awoken when he hears a loud noise as
it seems as if someone has ran out of his hotel room in a hurry. The room
door has been forced open and the lock on his brief case has been busted
and the contents ransacked. Theres an envelope placed on the desk
signed with Fletchers name. As its read aloud to the audience it contains
information on the case.

Format: My radio play will be in a series format. I believe this fits my

radio drama as it follows the career and life of Fletcher. We follow him in
the present as he goes through life dealing with his own psyche whilst
flash backs of his past give context to the audience. The narrative
structure of the radio drama will be non-linear this is due to the flash
backs and references to Fletchers past.
