Middle School Lessons Data Analysis

When looking at the pre and post test data, it is clear that the students gained knowledge. For all
four classes, the knowledge gained was significant. In the first class, for three questions out of
ten, the class went from between 39% and 96% to a 100%. For the remainder of the questions,
the increase was from 4% to 81%. The students clearly learned a lot from this set of lessons.
From the first class, I also had three students ask questions that I wasnt able to answer. In the
second class, the students improved with every question. The pre test scores ranged from 14% to
90% correct. In the post test scores, the range of correct scores was from 55% to 100%. Again,
the students learned a significant amount from the lessons. Ten students also had questions that
they wanted answered from the middle school. In the third class, which was a REACH class (the
gifted and talented program), every student, pre and post test, got question one correct. For the
rest of the pre test scores ranged from 16% to 74%. The post test scores ranged from (not
including the first question) 93% to 100%. The third class had eleven students ask questions. For
the fourth class, every student, pre and post test got the first question correct. The pre test scores
ranged from 0% to 85%. The post test scores ranged from (not including the first question) 42%
to 100%. Ten students from the fourth class had questions for the middle school. The total
number of fifth grade students was 100. Overall, the students increased their knowledge in all
areas ranged from 3% to 84%. The smallest increase was for the first question which was about
the dress code. With the first question taken out because most of the students got it correct, the
range of increase was from 14% to 84%.
Overall, in all areas, the students knowledge increased. The pre and post tests were two full
weeks apart. The information was what they needed to know for middle school, so I feel that
they retained it better and the data shows this. Also, because I wanted to students to know about
the middle school and the policies and codes that they will need to know for the fall, I constantly
went over what I had talked about previously. The students were excited and anxious to learn
about the middle school. They were excited to share if they had an older sibling that was at or
had gone to middle school.
