Objectives:
1. Students will be able to speak the Spanish lyrics
2. Students will be able to sing the main melody
3. Students will be able to pronounce the Spanish lyrics
Materials:
Oye la Musica by Jay Althouse
Piano
Procedure:
1. Review the Spanish pronunciation/translation
a. Have students turn to the back page of the music
b. Call on students to speak the phonetic pronunciation of the
Spanish
c. Call on students to read the translation aloud
2. Review measures 1-43
a. Correct issues as they arise
3. Learn measures 43-49
a. Play the soprano part and have students sing along
b. Play the alto part and have students sing along
c. Play the baritone part and have students sing along
d. Put all the parts together and sing measures 43-49
4. Learn counter melody from measures 52-66
a. Point out that the sopranos/altos start off with the melody
b. Baritones have counter melody
c. Point out that on measure 59 the parts switch
d. Play counter melody in context with the melody
i. Have students sing the counter melody
Assessment:
Teacher will listen to students for rhythmic accuracy. (group
assessment)
Teacher will assess each students ability to match pitch. (individual
assessment)
Teacher will assess students ability to speak the correct Spanish
pronunciation(group assessment)
Evaluation:
1. Were students able to speak the Spanish lyrics?
