Hi, my name is Caleb Stanley and my group and I are doing a project and
we are wondering why the freshmen meal plans are the most expensive and
why there are only two options as freshmen and as you go through
college you get more meal plans? Also if there is an email address we
could use for a reference for our project.
First of all, Caleb, the doors of Business Services are always open to students. You may
certainly come and ask whatever you need for your project. Ana Alvarez, Director of Auxiliary
Services, would certainly make her time available, as would I.
Heres some bullet point answers to your question that can certainly be elaborated upon if
youd like us to.
Its not at all uncommon for universities to have required meal plans for freshmen
which provide for a larger number of meals and/or greater accessibility to dining halls.
Meal plans help resident first-year students to make the transition from living at
home to college life and assures that theyll have access to meals with nutritious choices
and variety.
The vast majority of residence halls to which freshmen are assigned are rooms
and suites that do not have private kitchens.

The Unlimited meal plan allows for access on a more frequent basis; for
those students that may want to snack in between meals. The 175 Block Plan
averages 2 meals per day. Both plans also have accompanying DB funds so that
students can eat at retail dining venues elsewhere on campus (such as Chick-filA, Starbucks, etc.)

Please let us know if we can provide additional assistance or if you want some time to come
over and talk.
