Soundscape Activity

Outline:
Examples: Price tag (Pitch Perfect), Cups (Pitch Perfect), Pentatonix
1. Groups of 2-3
2. As a group, choose a well-known song with a simple melody (ex. Stand By
Me)
3. Sing the ORIGINAL first verse of the song (with or without lyrics).
4. As a group, decide on a rhythmic variation and/or accompaniment for the rest
of the song. Some examples include, but are not limited to:
- sing the song using nonsense syllables
- beat box
- Clap, stomp, snap, or drum a rhythmic accompaniment
- Create and sing harmonic parts
5. You may choose to have every group member sing/perform in unison, or
assign individual parts to group members.
6. Your group will perform your song (including the ORIGINAL first verse and the
variation on the rest of the song) for the class. You can perform the song with
or without lyrics.

Assessment:
Your group will be assessed on the following:
- Accurate rhythmic and melodic performance of the original first verse
- Consistent tempo
- Ability to perform as a group
- Pitch accuracy and consistency
- Creative variation/accompaniment present in remainder of the song
- Rhythmic accuracy in the variation
- Appropriateness of the accompaniment for the song
