serves as a pulse of the musical composition.
Three Components of Rhythm
• Tempo – is the speed of the beat (slow, moderate or fast)
• Meter – which composes of time signature is the combination of
strong beats (accent) and weak beats
o Duple (2/4) – Leron Leron, Sinta, Doredo, Magtanim ay Di
Biro
o Triple (3/4) – Atin Cu Pung Singsing, Bahay Kubo, Paru-
parong Bukid, Sarung Banggi, Manang Biday
o Quadruple (4/4) – Pamulinawen, Sitsiritsit Alibangbang
Leron Leron, Sinta
• Beat - is the basic unit of time, the pulse (regularly repeating event)
2. Dynamics – softness or loudness of the music
3. Melody – most obvious among all musical elements. It is
the organized sequence (horizontal of single notes.
• Conjunct - The more singable or playable type. The melody
is easy to sing because the notes have
• no skips or leaps.
• Disjunct - a melodic skip or leap.
4. Harmony – The vertical arrangement of sound in
a musical piece, it is the simultaneous sounding of
two or more notes.
• Consonance - Consonant intervals in music are
more pleasant and seems like “everything is ok”.
• Dissonance - Dissonant intervals on the other
hand produce a more “creepy” sound. It shows
tension and needs to be resolved
5. Texture – is all about the thickness of the sound.
• Monophonic Texture (one sound) – only single
line can be seen which means there is only one
• melody or tune playing.
• Homophonic Texture – a single melody is present
with an accompaniment of an
• instrument
• or several instruments.
• Polyphonic Texture – two or more
• melodic contours or lines are plating
• simultaneously.
6.Timbre – quality of sound heard.
7. Form – Over-all plan or structure of music.
• Unitary (A) - are the songs that contain only one verse
Examples: The Farmer in the Dell, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
• Strophic (AAA) - a song structure in which all verses or stanzas of
the text are sung to the same music. Example: Leron Leron Sinta
• Binary (AB) - is a song or piece of music written with contrasting
phrases. The A can alternate with B and is sometimes referred to as
verse-chorus form. Example : Let It Go
• Ternary (ABC or ABA) - a form consisting of three sections, the
third section normally either a literal or a varied repeat of the first.
Example : Lupang Hinirang
