confined to the royal courts but is also used greatly in dance, theatre, and in ceremonies. Its folk music
embodied with simple songs with simple melodic lines where articulation of the text rather than the style
or technique of execution is their focus in singing.

Let’s Understand…
Skill-Related Fitness Components:

Agility- the ability to perform a series of explosive movements in rapid succession in opposing
direction.
Hexagon Agility Test – a test used to measure the agility. It involves jumping
in and out of a hexagon shaped testing area, measuring 24 inches per side.
Materials needed: masking tape, stopwatch.
Procedure: Start with both feet in the middle. Jump in and out of the hexagon
in a clockwise rotation, after completing a full revolution, you will change
direction going counterclockwise rotation and do another one going clockwise.
Scoring- record the time needed to complete 3 full rotations.

Balance- the ability to maintain stability during stationary position or dynamic movements.
Stork Balance Stand – a test used to measure balance. It requires a person to
stand in one leg while maintaining stability.
Materials needed: timer.
Goal: maintain stability of the body for as long as possible.
Procedure: remove shoes while conducting this test. Place both hands on the
hips and lift one foot towards the knee area. Lift the hill of the Rating SCORE(seconds)
balancing foot and hold it for as long as possible. The Excellent 50
participant is given 1 minute to practice the balance. Good 40 - 50

contact with the knee. The hill of the balancing foot touches the Poor 10
floor.

Coordination- the ability to use all other components so that effective movements are
achieved.
Juggling – a test used to measure the coordination of the eye and the hands.
Materials needed: washer with straw
Goal: assess ones’ ability to maintain equilibrium
Procedure: Hold the washer with straw into the palm of your hands. Stretch your
arm and toss the washer with straw into the air and hit it with your other palm

Note: stop counting as soon as the following occur:(you can do pivot), Stepped twice. The
washer with straw touches anything other than the palm of your hand.

Power- the ability to exert maximum muscular contraction instantly in an

explosive burst of movements. (Strength x Speed/Work x time)
Standing Long Jump – a test used to measure the explosive power of the leg
muscles.
Materials needed: tape measure, ruler.
Procedure: Draw a line as a starting point of the participant. Place the tape
measure in the line and stretch it. Stand before the line with toes barely
touching the line. Jump as far away as possible and measure the distance of the foot from the
line. Record the distance by centimeters.

Speed- the rate at which an individual is able to perform a movement or cover a distance in a
period of time.
100-meter sprint – a test used to measure the running speed.
Materials needed: stopwatch, signal flag or whistle.
Procedure: Find a 100-meter distance space. Start running as soon as you hear/see the signal
from the flag or whistle. Record the time by seconds.

Reaction Time- ability to respond to a stimulus.

Stick Drop Test – a test used to measure how long a person reacts to a
stimulus.
Materials needed: ruler, armchair or table.
Procedure: Look for a partner to hold the ruler. The participants stand or sit
near the edge of a table or an armchair, resting the elbow so that the wrist
extends over the edge. Your partner holds the ruler vertically between the participant’s thumb
and index finger, but not touching. Align the zero mark with the subject’s fingers. Record the
