Form and Timbre

Form
 is the structure of a song or a musical
composition
 It denotes both general structural
principles and specific schematic designs
of musical composition
Musical Unit
Note- a symbol for musical sound with corresponding
time value
Motive- smallest coherent, self contained in music
- consist of two or more successive notes which form
a distinctive rhythmic pattern, pitch pattern or melodic
pattern
- gives distinct character or mood of music

Phrase- more complete ad comprehensive

identified through sectional analysis between the
principles of repetition and contrast

Unitary Form (A)
 One unrepeated section
 is a part short musical piece that
contain only one main melody

Example: PILIPINAS KONG MAHAL


STROPHIC FORM
 One repeated section
 also called verse-repeating form, chorus form,
AAA song form, or one-part song form – is a
song structure in which all verses or stanzas of
the text are sung to the same music.

- is a two section from with two


different melodic ideas

Ternary
- it is the ABA form because it has three parts
which contain two melodic ideas with a
repetition of the first

or played thrice and thereat making it five
sections

resembles a small
guitar. It usually plays the tenor part.

like a bigger banduria
with a longer neck. Its
sounding hole is like
that of a violin. It is

a double bass, played by
plucking the strings with
the fingers. Its player
plays in the standing
position.

accompaniment.
HIMIG kawayan
A group of instrumentalists who uses bamboo
instrument in their music.
It is a group
similar to the
Pangkat Kawayan
of Mr. Victor
Toledo who also
manufactures
different bamboo
instrument

sing the same song at different times to
create harmony..

songs are sung at the same time to create
harmony.
HARMONY
-Is the simultaneously sounding or combination of
tones

Chords- groupings of 3 or more tones at different


pitch and harmoniously sounded together .
Classification of Chords
Triad – has the simplest chord having
tones

Consonance- agreeable and harmonious


effects of chords such as major and minor
Classification of Chords
Dissonance- combination of chords that has the effect of
tension which usually resolves to a consonant chord, like
7th chord, augmented and diminished

Broken Chord- a chord which tones are played one after


the other rather than simultaneously.
Chords Progression
Succession of chords in the
accompaniment. It is the manner by
which chord change.
