Lesson Objective: Aural Perception
A. Before, during, and after my lesson, I asked questions regarding aural perception. I preassessed by asking the students to raise their hands and show me if they remembered
doing the ABA activity that we had done the previous week. I then explained to them that
when they were listening for the form, they were using aural perception. I then asked
again, for what aural perception might mean. I taught the lesson and also taught the
students how to use their aural perception and listening skills. After the lesson was taught,
I asked questions regarding aural perception and then had the students do two activities.
The two movement activities I had the students participate in showed me exactly who
grasped the concepts and which students did not.
B. My pre-assessment regarding aural perception showed that most of the students did not
understand the topic, did not remember it, or had never learned the content. My ongoing
assessment regarding questions about form and listening showed growth in the amount of
students that were beginning to grasp and understand the knowledge. My post-assessment
movement activities at the end of the lesson showed that the majority of the class could
listen the Beethovens Minuet in G and Saint Saens Carnival of the Animals: The
Elephant and correctly perceive the changes in form. There were only a few students that
did not change their movements at the correct time.
C. From my observations and students performances I believe that in the future, I would
allot more time to spend on listening to different examples of form to strengthen students
listening skills and aural perception.
D. Reflecting on my own teaching, I did not allot enough time for instruction. I had too

many activities planned for the forty-five minute class and should have paced my lesson
more accordingly. In the future, I will go into more detail regarding the content and
information and also allow more time for the students to discover their aural perception
on their own. Overall, I need to pace my lesson a little better and allow students to have
discovery time with the essential content.
