PROFESSIONAL ONE-YEAR CAREER OUTLOOK

Goals
o Obtain an entry level position or internship in a non-profit
o Apply to multiple grad schools
o Take the GRE
o Never lose sight of the big THREE

Steps:
1. Graduate from The University of Georgia in May 2015 with a B.S. in Family and
Consumer Sciences. Complete major in Human Development & Family Sciences.
Complete and obtain Disability Studies Certificate.
2. Complete a full LinkedIn profile, use it to make connections
3. Move to the Atlanta area
4. Continue Group Leader work with Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind, Inc.
Service Animals
5. Obtain an internship or an entry-level job with a non-profit that pertains to the
Child Life profession in some way to gain experience.
6. Volunteer with Lighthouse Family Ministries Cancer
a. Find another outlet for Cancer focus due to conflicting scheduling
7. Apply for Graduate School for Human Development & Family Science with an
emphasis in Child Life in the fall of 2015.
8. Study for the GRE - GET A MATH TUTOR!!!!!!!!
9. Make a good GRE score, allow time for re-takes just in case
10. Research requirements for obtaining a certification in Child Life
a. Plan ahead accordingly
11. Volunteer at Childrens Healthcare of Atlanta to network and gain experience
a. Use informational interview contact
b. Use other TAs as contacts
12. Continue to work with children who do not have disabilities, illnesses, or issues to
be well rounded and gain experience.
13. Work during the summer of 2015 for Extra Special People, Inc. to gain experience
and network.
14. Continue communications with undergraduate professors to improve chances of
getting into Graduate school as well as obtain an assistanceship when accepted.
